My husband and I have been living in Hua Hin for nearly 4 years and we have full house insurances through a major company based in BKK , about one month month ago we had a big storm with high winds which cuased a lot of water damage and also wall cracks , our broker who is an agent for them came and took pictures and also brought a builder who they use to give a quote which was just under TBH 80,000 . Now after nearly a month the broker forwarded a letter for us to sign for an amount less than THB 6,000 .  Broker now says he can do nothing about it anymore. Do anybody have suggestion we are tired of just paying and paying .

Yeah maybe who you insure with covers storm damage or termed natural disasters, maybe OP should check there policy cover.

Our policy covers everything including Storm damage and yes we will change broker and insurance company next month when we have to renew anyway. Have contacted our lawyer but as we all know it will probably cost more than the claim .

Presumably your policy small print covers the damage you are claiming for? If so go first direct to the company and see what the issue is. Perhaps they just did not agree the cost of the works?

Depending on what they say if you feel they are in the wrong tell them you will go to the Insurance Ombudsman who appear to have some teeth in this kind of instance.  You will need someone who speaks Thai.

I would also suggest go and talk to AA Insurance who I think have an office in Hua Hin - if you say you are looking to move your cover but need some advice they may be able to make some suggestions and it won't cost you anything - unlike your lawyer......

As already suggested change the broker and the insurance company quickly and change to well recognised western insurance company, many of them operate in LOS.

I would also suggest to pursue the old claim for the storm damage for a while yet.

Are you aware of the Thai Gov't Damrong Centre which is there to look at complaints about anything, and they have an office in many cities / towns.

I know from a previous incident of a rip-off farang developer, many farang buyers went to the Damrong centre and were impressed with the attitude, thoroughness and actions taken by this centre, and the buyers got satisfaction for their complaints.
