When I go back to Australia I have it checked again and just as inevitably it's back to normal. No idea whether it's due to the way the BP is measured in Thailand or it's because of my relative lack of exercise when I'm away from home. Lack of recalibration of the instrument, probably. There's a large hospital in Chiang Mai I won't name. Had my BP checked there a few times while having some dental work done. Always 150 or 160, and I knew damn well I was between 100 and 120 on the medication. After having yet another tut-tut from the nurse doing the reading, I turned the instrument over and checked the calibration sticker. Had not been recalibrated for 8 years. 2

That would be about normal I think. 140 as a wandering about measure in Thailand could be appropriate, especially with anxiety playing its part. Is there any possibility your own monitor is measuring low?

Don't say that- I don't know if I'm doing right or wrong, as it is. I need to establish if I really have hypertension first, and to what extent. I used to take amlodipine in the UK. Every time I came to Thailand, my feet and ankles swole up. Doctor told me not to take amlodipine in a hot country and the problem was solved.

I just had a very instructive moment: I just had to do a listening test which got me quite flustered. I thought I'd take a bp reading afterwards and it had shot up to 137 from around a 105 earlier on. It really illustrates just what anxiety/stress does to me. In other words, you are extremely fit and that contributes to the low readings. Well done. 1

Does the Doxadozin not give you a stuffy nose in the morning? Mine did! That's very good B/P mate.

But I have noticed that the lower the pressure, the higher my BPM, which makes sense as your body needs whatever the blood give it, so less pressure = more beats = same amount of blood. Checking at home I was getting 'normal' BP levels, at the hospital and at the dentists was getting really high results. Last time I went , again, I get 158 something and I immediately checked, my machine showed 156, so OK. The doctor was unimpressed when I showed him my BP weekly records for the last 12 weeks, all at normal levels. White coat syndrome, which is a mystery to me as I am not a nervous guy. (I had been following his advice and taking BP meds), and he immediately put me on statins and wanted me to continue with the BP meds. I spent two days on the Internet and decided not to take any meds but to go keto. Now, 6 months later my BP is at 104/69 ish and my blood sugar down from 126 to 83 last time I looked. I'm 71, drink little, exercise. Keto is worth googling. What was your cholesterol six months ago and what is it now?

mike787
Some helpful suggestions intended as information only. NOT medical diagnosis/guidance. Definitely, always seek a medical licensed professional for treatment, verification, and guidance of any kind you seek. If your BP is measured, always make sure the index is between the 2 white line on the BP cuff, if they are not, potentially the BP readings maybe artificially too high or low depending on the cuff size. Was back to hospital today after another 20Km cycle ride. 50% increase in my BP meds (from 1 to 1 1/2 tabs each night) and a blood test for cancer. In the hospital I tested 100/60. PS. I normally fall in the athletes section for most vitals. Edited April 29, 2019 by BritManToo

You wrote earlier at home you also test 85/65 but now they increase your dosage? 85/65 seems quite low for an older man as it is. You probably wrote somewhere why you need bp medication but you sound fit for your age, so how high were your readings previously to make them decide you needed medication, or is there some other reason? Just curious.

Have a new Dr for the past year, he is older a Diabetic Specialist and very good, he changed my 20mg [taken since 1991] in the evening to 5mg twice a day.. Changed my wrist BP monitor, was old + must take 2x a day last year to a electric/battery Omron arm machine, was expensive, with a discount 2,850 baht, I am 69 so will last til the end of my days
