Popular Post Aspaltso
Jingthing is correct. The overall trend for foreigners in Thailand is moving in the wrong direction. What I can say in regards to moving to a new location after living in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam is this. All of these countries are a mess and ruled by governments who have no idea what they are doing in order to make their countries more desirable as places to live for their citizens. I remember back in 2009 there was so much hope for ASEAN and the future of all these countries, but after having lived around ASEAN since that time I just see greed of the governments, unsustainable economic growth, and increasingly greed of the citizens of these countries. It's going to get so bad(in my opinion) that many westerners are going to be forced to going back to their own countries(as in my case) or going to to other areas of the world ,i.e southern Europe, south America. Then, maybe in 20 years, the governments of these countries will be begging for westerners to come back to their countries and the cycle will repeat itself. I'll be 60 years old in 20 years so it'll be interesting to see if that scenario play's out. 4

If not for cheap sex with twenty years younger girls which is almost impossible or extremely expensive in the West, Thailand does not provide any value for your money. It is a dump, plain and simple. That is a true statement no one will admit to. If not for the cheap and easy women, how many expats would have actually moved to Thailand? How many expats were so smitten with Thai women, that they married one in their own country and decided to move to Thailand? Ludicrous some of the comments you read about how people can see Thailand so differently just because they trapped themselves there. 4

The world was a far better place without the internet. However, even had there been, I'd still have chosen LOS, and still would even now. It's so diametrically different from western countries how could I not. Alternatives, Cambodia sounds too primitive, the Phillipines too dangerous, Laos- no way and ditto Burma. Vietnam- don't know enough about it, but if it really is like LOS 30 years ago, perhaps. That's the problem. You live in your bubble, too scared to experience what else is out there. Philippines dangerous? Sure, some parts - but that country has ton of cities and islands to choose. People there are nothing but amazing. Thais often look like dragons with blood around their mouth in compare with Filipinos. Not to mention almost everyone speaks English there. If so , then nearly every ex-pat went to live there for prostitution . Those of us who have no interest in prostitutes live in other parts of Thailand . If you live in Pattaya and mix with Pattaya ex-patrs , you would be under the impression that 90 % OF EX-PATS move to Thailand for prostitution . And, I would add that your second figure would be even close to zero among people that had other legitimate purposes in being in or moving to Thailand. However, having said that, I would add that pretty much every guy who moved here knew there was always that option available on the menu should the need or desire arise. I was attracted to the beach resort propaganda. It took years to figure out that was bullsh!t, and learn all the dirty parts that I've written about...repeatedly. It turns out that the beach resort got exponentially worse every year since 2001, as far as I've been here. And I've been mocked for trying to find Catholic feiends who go to St. Nikolas. And I have no friends. Too old to whoremonger (and not my style) and too young for the older crowd. Luckily, my Asian non-thai wife is super great company and a kickass cook. And like I always tell her: she is far less bullsh!t than other women.

Me too, sadly.I understand. I am overly committed here too and extracting myself would be very difficult. But it doesn't logically follow that just because a person is in such a situation that they would insult people considering or making other choices as to where to live. Maybe it makes sense emotionally for some people though but that is really not very admirable. Thats is 7 months, so I average about 5 plus temples a month. But I have to be allowed to count Wats in Ayyuthaya, Lopburi, Phitsanulok, Samut Prakhan, nakhon Pathom, etc. Plus they interfere with such fun as Shrine Day (I usually have a shrine day once a week, where I just wander around looking at Shrines), Pier Exploration (I have to do the Northen ones next, most of the central ones are done), Station Action (pick a random transit station outside Bangkok qua Bangkok and explore), Gymnastic Days (ride a bicylcle around Koh Kret or the Lung and look like a pumpkin impaled on a wheeled spike), River Ratting (thats sort of like Pier Exploration, except you get off at one Pier and walk to the next along the river) and my personal favourite....Count the Burkhas. I usually shedule that one for a day when a lady is necessary, since I can interrupt that activity with a vsisit to the local establishement. All of the above is why I confine my interactions with ladies to 15 min max encounters. Nothing messes up a activity more than a needy woman! Plus they cost more when it time for Hotel Dinner Buffet night.

I too would never consider living there again nor does my wife want to. It all comes down to money and the ability to live comfortably in the first world. Many posters simply cannot do that and have to defend Thailand as their home because they are trapped and have no other choice. People have to make due with what they can afford and for many in Thailand it seems it is not that much. I think if money were no object a lot more people would move on. Not true there are many countries especially east Europe that are cheaper than Thailand. Punters choose here because of pussy and the climate.
