I entered Thailand on a 90-day non-immigrant O visa on 21 December 2006 and assumed that I would pay a visit to Soi Suan Plu after a couple of months to request a 90 day extension.

My passport is USA.

I am over 55, but not prepared to exercise the retirement visa option at this time.

My current visa expires 20 March with extension to 27 March 07.

At Soi Suan Plu, I was able to get only the 7-day extension for THB1900 and was advised by Suan Plu officials to go to Singapore and get a multiple-entry extension for 1 year. I have not been successful in finding out what, exactly, that process will entail or what will be the end result.

Does this mean another 90 days with multiple entry options to be exercised up until 21 December of 07 (or from date of extension? or something else altogether?

I do not know what documentation or funds will be required of me at the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore.

I do not know how long it will take to process the application (how long I will have to stay in Singapore).

I do not know what kind of visa I will end up with and for what period of time.

I do know where in Singapore the embassy is located.

In surfing through this forum I have not found a situation completely applicable to my own, although surely at sometime, someone has asked this question of you and I've just missed it somehow. My apologies.

Does anyone feel like answering this for me?

If so, it would be much appreciated.

It would have been easier on my eyes if you had used the normal type font.

If you have 800k baht or more in a bank account you should be able to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from Singapore but if not a single entry would probably be all you could obtain. A multi entry will allow unlimited entries of up to 90 days each.

Proof of bank account money and about USD 125 in Singapore dollars would be required.

Submit morning and pick up next workday afternoon.

Non immigrant O visa either single or multi entry. You want the multi entry if you can get it.

Singapore is a city and the Embassy in in the main shopping area. Believe the Hilton Hotel is across the street.

I came in on a TYPE O Visa Dec 2 2006. This is a multiple entry visa but you do have to leave the country every 90 days. Another option would be you deposit 800,000 baht in the bank for a minimum of 3 months before ytou apply for an extension. Then they will let you stay.

I am so sorry for the difficult font. Thank you for your response. Further questions please . . .

The single entry 90 day extension will permit only a return to Thailand from Singapore (one reentry) and to stay another 90 days? If that is the case, will it be possible to get another visa outside of Thailand to come back later this year?

For the single entry extension, is the only financial requirement, then, the USD125 in Singapore dollars?

Hopefully I will find it less difficult to find my way to 370 Orchard Road in Singapore than to understand visa rules and regs!

Thanks again,

Gingco

Both taxi and subway service is very good in Singapore. Yes and Yes to the questions.

You are aware that retirement extension of stay requirement is 800k or 65k or combination so if you can meet the requirements it is quite easy to obtain the extension of stay and avoid having to make visa runs.

Being over age 50 and checking on retirement options should get the single entry, at least once.

In Singapore to get a Non-Im O visa single or multi you will need to show funds otherwise they will only give you a tourist visa.

Thanks Jack.

Hmmmm. . . How much funds for 90 day extension of non-immigrant O?

Cash or proof of availability of funds elsewhere? Unfortunately, I did not make preparations in advance to show "bank letter" or to deposit 800k in Thai bank if that was something I wanted to do at this time.

Tourist visa is 30 days? For USD125 in Singapore currency? Or . . .

Use same TM 7 form that is used at Soi Suan Plu?

Trip to Singapore is expensive, so am appreciative of all information I can receive in advance.

Thanks also to lopburi3. I'm not sure I've got the thaivisa.com "reply to reply" process down, but I'm working on it.

1. In Singapore you will be applying for a new visa (not an extension of whatever you have now)

Please tell us if you are married and what kind of length of stay you are looking for and for what purpose (only tourism, work, others)

Then we will be able to advise on the best options.

If you want a Non-Im-O visa for the purpose of retirement, it looks like the EMbassy in Singapore will ask for proof opf funds (800k or equivalent) no need to be in Thailand before they will issue you with a visa that will give you 90 days stay extendable in Thailand

New non-immigrant O, I presume? Good for 1-year with multiple entries?

No Thai wife or Thai husband. Am here considering retirement in Thailand.

Planned to leave The Kingdom anyway for a little while. Now it will just be sooner rather than later.

New question:

Assume flying out of Thailand via Singapore: apply for this new visa in Singapore, showing proof of funds, though not in Thai bank.

Does new visa become active when returning to Thailand?

Does the visa run out if it doesn't get used? (Non-immigrant O runs out if not activated within the original 90-day period covered by the visa, right?).

And one more: does application for the new 1-year multiple-entry visa have to take place before the old 90-day non-immigrant O visa expires?

Scrambling to get everything together in order to leave by 27 March and grateful for the extra 7 days from Soi Suan Plu.

Thanks again to all.

A visa is valid from date of issue.

If a single entry non immigrant visa is not used within 90 days it has expired (date will be printed on visa) and for multi entry the period would be one year.

Application for a new visa is after your current visa expires. You can be in Thailand for the normal permitted to stay time even if you visa expires (it is only for entry - not for stay).
