BANGKOK, (NNT) - The new Khlong Lord has clear water, not black as before, after rehabilitation and landscaping improvements. Bangkok Metropolitan and Administration (BMA) is upgrading the canal and will develop it into an important tourist attraction that recalls its identity in the reign of King Rama V.

This is the condition of the water in the canal. The water is now clean again. The surrounding area has been developed into a place of leisure, after the extraordinary committee studied the facts and laws that were used in the management of inner Rattanakosin Island and the contiguous areas. The BMA has recently concentrated on beautification of the inner Rattanakosin Island area and developed guidelines for the restoration of the canal; it has done so with the help of the Phra Nakhon District Office and the Office of the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Defense.

The canal will be restored to its former beauty and developed into an important cultural tourist attraction in the inner Rattanakosin Island precinct, so that it reflects the identity of the reign of King Rama V. The Phra Nakhon District Office has dredged and removed mud from the canal. It has also diverted clean water from the Chao Phraya River to replenish the water in the canal, resulting in much better water condition. A survey of the surroundings by agricultural academics from the Environment Department has found various types of planted trees such as jackfruit, Iron Wood, Lagerstroemia, tamarind and Devil Tree. There are also trees such as pipals and Manila tamarind that occur naturally. Both groups of trees are strong and in perfect condition. The BMA will trim their branches and roots in accordance with the structure of the cement dam to make it attractive. It is necessary to control the roots of pipals to prevent them from destroying the dam’s structure.

The BMA will also study the guidelines for solving the problem of beggars, helpless people and prostitution which have been a big problem over many decades until now. If the canal can be developed into a major tourist attraction, it is expected that these groups of people won’t enter the area. The BMA will also expand the development to cover Khlong Lord at Rajanadda Temple, Ratchabopit Temple and Mahakan Fort in the future.

The new Khlong Lord has clear water, after reorganization and landscape improvements. Bangkok Metropolitan and Administration (BMA) will continue to improve the canal and develop it into an important tourist attraction that maintains the same identity as that of the reign of King Rama V.

So it'll be more attractive to go for a swim there, than in Koh Phi phi.

I'm in Chiang Mai, and have been saying for the past 10 years, they need to drain the moat around the old city, cement the sides, paint them an ice blue, then refill it with clean water. But hey, no one listens to me. lol
