I don't think it is possible. Government hospitals, especially provincial ones, usually do not have direct billing arrangements with insurance companies. It entails a lot of clerical work ion their side and is hardly worth it given how very few of their patients use private insurance.

If you have a policy with David Shield, you are issued a "DavidCard" (a Mastercard). I haven't used mine yet, so don't know exactly how it works, but I assume that you use this Mastercard to pay for your treatment. Presumably, you will have to contact David Shield first to get authorization.

I believe that government hospitals accept credit/debit cards, so maybe this could be an option for you.

Good point and yes, the David Shield card would work. You would indeed have to get spproval first and need some paperwork from the hospital ( in Englush and may he a bit of a hassle to get) but once apptoved this modality gets around the issue of needing a direct pay arrangemebt between the insurance co and the hospital.

David Shield is AFAIK the only insurer using this system.
