USA Social Security

Featured Replies

Im planning on moving to Bangkok next week. Im running into last minute issues. I collect social security benefits from the USA. I called Social Security to ask them how to change to an overseas address. They told me I can do it on the My Social Security Portal which Im registered for. I just logged into the portal. Under my profile it gives you an option to edit your address. But it also says the address must be a USA address or USA Territory. There is no option for an overseas address.

Has anyone dealt with this issue? A friend of mine told me I could use his USA address. But my accountant here in the USA told me that the particular state might question why Im not paying taxes in that state. And he said it could complicate things.

So I left a message for Social Security to call me back. Hopefully they give me the proper information.

Can anyone that collects Social Security give me some feedback on this?

I use my daughter's address...have checks direct deposit into my US bank...transfer funds as needed...

The US embassy in Manilla handles SS issues for us living in Thailand, once you have an address in Thailand you can contact them for change of address, you can also get your monthly payment automatically sent to a Bank in Thailand once you have set up a bank account here, easiest is to use Bangkok Bank as they have an office in New York to route direct to Bangkok

I had a similiar issue with the VA, and they manually entered my Thai address for me. Perhaps SS can do the same. In any event, I would talk to them on the phone before doing anything else.
