I commented how unfair that was before to people of embassies that actually had to prove they had the money. Just a matter of time until the Thai immigration would see the same thing.

 

All the other embassies go on with those letters and keep doing checks. The embassies could have changed and preformed checks like other embassies then things would be all good.

 

When I was married I had the money in a Thai bank and if I retire I had planned to put the money in a Thai bank as per the rules. Nothing has changed in that way.

 

For the Danish Embassy you are wrong.
We all ways have to provide document to show we have that income.

As for our Embassy it is so easy to check, ID number (cpr number) in the system and it pop up for them to check.

 

This is part of our income letter back when our Embassy did them.

"He (me) have submitted evidence before the embassy showing that he receives pension from Denmark in the amount of DKK XX.XXX per month.

Which is equivalent to THB XXX.XXX, The income is tax in Denmark."

 

Danish Embassy did not stop doing the income letter because of no evidence of income. Or that have to check it, As i say, So easy to do.
But because some of the other things Thailand (Immigration) ask for.

Most Thais I know are friendly and helpful. Yes, they want (and need) Farangs' money, but they work for it.

Friend, You're not paying attention. The other embassy that stopped issuing that you cant name is the Danish Embassy.

A friend of mine tried that with his mother who had alzheimers, his wife had a nervous breakdown and they almost divorced.

I think she has just demonstrated that there are always alternatives to Thailand, the need to go public seemed a bit unnecessary. You should always have a back up plan location wise moving to a foreign country. Personally I think Thailand is slowly going backwards in its appeal to me and when I feel the time is right I will quietly move on, the last thing I would dream of doing is having a pop at the place given the enjoyable times living in the country has given me.

There are some really needy people here on TV. Would you really expect anyone in Thailand or anywhere else to be praying you'd come live with them even though you didn't have money to spend? if you (not "us"), are such a charmer, are  people back in your hometown On a hunger strike until you return? Surely they're devastated at losing you.

I suppose the only sad aspect for Thailand is that they are losing "free income" - direct imports of pure cash - from the farang countries.  I wouldn't blame them if having us out of here made their culture more pleasant, I could understand that.  Still, old white people with lots of cash just to spend, spend, spend on the Thai economy...seems like throwing billions of baht away.  The old farang just go to their own bars and restaurants for the most part, as they prepare to die. If anything, their biggest problem is often not engaging the lovely Thai culture more. I guess Cambodia, Lao and the Phillipines will just have to rake in all that free money themselves.

It was the U.S. Embassy that stopped issueing "Income Affidavits" for the 86,000 THB she paid monthly for her Mum's care home. Actually the Embassy had in the meantime lied on her behalf - the payments were in no way any "income" of her Mum. She even mentioned this hard fact in her first statement, but this got snowed under in all the following comments.

There was a big change with the 800,00 THB deposit method.  You can never touch 400,000 THB of the deposit during the years if you need it.

 I was going to comment on the last article, I was just too troubled and short of words from the vitriol that was poured on your poor family. Reading the comments in the last update about you and your mother, even though I expected to see the same vile comments again, I never get used to them I was shocked and very saddened. I have recently tried finding out or tried to understand why any foreigner would take joy in seeing another foreigner who has been here for a while get thrown out for visa misunderstanding or lack of funds to meet the ever increasing requirements - And my findings simply is that they (Most) are not foreigners rather thai citizens who speak english, and are claiming  to be foreigners to mislead or create an existence which does not exist in thailand. We have them too back in America, those who'd be against anyone who says/suggests anything considered negative to the US. So again, some of these posters are locals who have watched some foreigners mock their country/culture online and a great payback moment is when a foreigner is thrown out of the country. I do hope this makes some sense of it all to you.

 

  Those asking why you arent looking after your mother yourself or why you can't just pay a maid to look after your mother are people who've never looked after an Alzheimer's patient before, as One single person cannot look after a late stage alzheimer's patient. God bless you for not abandoning your mother at this stage, most of us can only wish and dream that we can have someone like you by our side when our brain fails us and bones become weak. Your mother in all her memory loss is obviously a proud mom.

 

 With regards to Thailand and their immigration laws, I think the government is only doing what the majority of thais want. Even though most thais are friendly, calm and polite, deep down they don't want foreigners becoming a part of their society and "contaminating" their populace. This is what I have noticed after living here for over 20 years. Very close neighbors who I dine with on daily basis would once in a while say something shocking and naive about foreigners to my face. I'm on my way out now and I do hope that when I go back to America I can come forward with ideas on how to educate Americans about moving to Thailand and the unknown dangers that lay ahead. Most people don't know until they've moved and become stuck. I have seen that happen to way too many people. A country that offers no reasonable path to a mere residency is not a country to mess with.

 

  Glad you were/are still able to afford looking after your mom, and I'm also glad that the philippines is working out. Stay strong child, and keep doing your mom what is right by you!

Yes you are missing the big reason, we needed more money for retirement in Thailand so mom gets the shaft. Yes a very concerned daughter ships her mom off to the PI while she stays in bad old Thailand they were so mean to her. The only person with a problem here is the daughter. She decided to make her family life public and when she didn't get full support from a few here she blames them

Apparently ! The Danish Embassy will give the income letter only to those citizen  that have a Danish government pension at they can verify this.

I agree, good luck in the PI.  I am told that retirees are very welcome in PI.  Yes, you have to be very careful of some the people there.  But you have to be careful everywhere...

 

I have been told from guys who have been going to Thailand for a very long time, some since the very early 90's, that the welcomed feelings from the Thais has changed dramatically.

 

Although, I screwed up when I didn't take the invitations to go to Thailands back in the 90's.  My first time here was 2012 and it was more friendly than last August was, that's for sure...

Ah Thanks I did not know that, strange that they stopped while they were actually confirming the income. I only knew of the big 3.

Shame on Thailand for what read what this lady has stated here she lied about the income when she could get a letter from the embassy, but the kicker is we needed more money for retirement that is the kicker, they needed more money. It is a dreadful the daughter finds her self in so why give her stick when what she needs is a little understanding.  I hope that things work out well for yo and your Mother.

You exemplify exactly the type of racist farang I am talking about.  You forgot that they are allegedly "lazy".  All this crap you say would want me to want you out of my country also.  I live in Ubon, not Pattaya, and the temples, food, lovely kind people, the Buddhist social backdrop, the beautiful weather, so many things. Unlike my  country, you know what it doesn't have?  Weekly school shootings, police murders of black people, angry, frowning resentful populace, horrific weather (in the north) and as for greed and  corruption, please take a look at the current president of the USA before you pass judgment on Thailand.
