Seven passengers injured in Songkhla bus crash

Seven passengers were injured when a Phuket-Hat Yai bus crashed into a ditch and fell on its side in Songkhla’s Rattaphum district early on Saturday, police said.

The accident happened on the Hat Yai-bound Asia highway in Moo 4 village in Tambon Khuha Tai at 3am.

The bus lay on its side with some 20 passengers trapped inside.

 

Seven passengers suffered head wounds. They were taken to Rattaphum Hospital. They were discharged after treatment and continued their journey on another bus.

 

The bus driver, Pittaya Sudsawat, 30, told police that he was driving from Phuket. He said a pickup truck overtook his bus and cut in front of him and the bus went into a ditch and flipped on its side when he tried to avoid the truck.

The very common situation whereby the central ditch caused the bus to flip. Thai driving is bad enough without inbuilt road hazards.

Why does the photo of the bus look to me like a horse having been bedded down for the night, and laying  on its side in some straw?

These central ditches nearly always contain trees, power poles and large signs, but there are no barriers to prevent and slow down out of control vehicles. The lack of good road design, poor construction standards and lack of road maintenance all exacerbate the road casualty figures.

Another day where the bus lies down in the default position of bus Armageddon land????

Same excuse used 3 times this week' does it replace the blakes not work?

Passenger " does this bus go to London ? " 

Driver  " No " 

Pass'  " but it says London on the front "

Driver " it has a baked bean advert down the side as well .. but I don't sell 'em " .. 

 

As a bus pulls up to a stop bloke at the front of the queue takes out his glass eye throws it in the air before catching and replacing it .. As he steps aboard the amazed driver asks " why did you do that ? " the pass' replied " I wanted to check if there were any seats upstairs " .. 

 

Passenger  " do you stop at the Savoy ? " 

Driver  " Not on my wages I don't " ..

On the other hand the lack of intelligence on the part of the driver is manifest;

A pick up cutting in front of the bus is becoming the new excuse de jour.

Give over - oh my aching sides!

Lost count of the buses here seen laying on their side, down Ravines, upside down or on fire; i think we see more here in one year than we see in a lifetime in Europe !

you have a bus full of passengers who are more important than one idiot !!!!
