Jewellery missing as mom, 76, found dead in Udon Thani house

A 76-year-old woman was found dead in the Udon Thani house where she lived alone, and her gold necklace and two gold bracelets were missing, police said.

The Muang district police station was alerted by the woman’s daughter to the death inside a house in Ban Nong Samrong village in Tambon Moomon.

A doctor from Udon Thani Hospital determined that Orathai Patchamat had died at least three days earlier.

Her daughter, Usa Butsara, 56, told police that her mother had lived alone for years after her husband died.

Usa, who lives in another district, said she and two other siblings had tried to convince Orathai to live with one of them, but the mother insisted on remaining in the house as she missed her late husband. Her children visited on a weekly basis.

Usa said her mother’s neighbour had called to report that lights in the home had not been turned on for several days. Usa rushed to check on her mother on Monday evening and found the body in the kitchen.

Usa said the gold necklace and two bracelets she had always worn had gone missing.

The body was sent for an autopsy at the provincial hospital.
