Donald Trump Interview | Lex Fridman Podcast #442
I would be interested to watch it if she did. It would be an intelligent conversation at least and not a pure insult to American voters. But I also don’t think it will happen. It’s all about campaign strategy at this point and she doesn’t need that interview to help propel her. Trump on the other hand is struggling to remain relevant, while Harris sucks up all the air in the room. Maybe Trump should go on Rogan, Piers, Russel Brand, and the rest of the motley podcasts to try and gain even more exposure to his ghastly ineptitude. Perhaps it would be useful for Harris to go on Lex though after she wins the election and prior to her inauguration. It would help to give the American people a better understanding of what lies ahead for them in terms of her thinking and planned policies under her administration. -

Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
The quote of the RD chief didn't say whether she thought the government agreed with her idea of global tax, which involves legislation, or what year she hoped to introduce it. She said the amendment was being drafted but amending Section 41 to cover global income would only take about 5 minutes. Probably a lot of politicians have corruption money salted away in offshore accounts and might not like the idea. Theoretically they would get rid of last year's reinterpretation that made remittances taxable, if the income was earned prior to 2024, as the two systems are contradictory. They can't tax income earned abroad and then tax it again on remittance. But cancelling the remittance tax complete would give a free pass to income earned abroad from 1 Jan 2024 till whenever the start date for global tax might be. They might include a transitory provision to tax that income on remittance. It still leaves a gaping loophole for wealthy Thais like Thaksin who can use family offices to manage their wealth offshore or at least an offshore corporate structure. Any income earned in the corporate would only taxable in Thailand, if the Thai resident beneficiary took a dividend from the company. Overwise as income and capital gains just accumulate in the offshore company. This is obviously grossly unfair to less wealthy Thai residents who can't afford oversas corporate structures but I can't see people like Thaksin wanting to have the corporate veil lifted to tax the Thai corporate owners. They can also set up offshore loans if they want to transfer cash to Thailand tax free instead of taking Thai taxable dividends. -

Last Sept I applied about 8pm on a Thursday evening, visa came through about 10 pm on the Saturday, about 50 hours. Being a Thursday thought I wouldn't see it until middle of following week. -

Healthy home-cooked food in a remote location
I live in a remote area along the Burmese border between Ranong and Chumphon, so I can relate to the challenges of cooking in rural Thailand. In my early days, I was a cook in the army reserve and later trained as a chef. My motto now is K.I.S.S. when it comes to both cooking and cleaning up. These days, I avoid frying due to health concerns and the mess, though I understand air fryers may offer healthier alternatives for those who enjoy fried foods. That said, I’ve found I can achieve most of what I like with a rice cooker. I’ve made everything from fried eggs, omelettes, stir-fries, soups, noodles, curries, even banana cake and bread using just a rice cooker. My Toshiba electronic rice cooker is especially good because it keeps rice warm and fresh all day, and it handles most of the dishes I’ve mentioned. As for supplies, I grow some fruit and vegetables and buy the rest locally. When I head to the city, I stock up on frozen meat. Chicken and fish work well—just break them down into smaller bags for freezing. Cans of tuna are also a useful standby. Eggs can last for weeks in the fridge, but I buy them weekly from the village. They’re another good protein staple, and I don’t refrigerate them. When I stock up on frozen meat in the city, I also pick up a few Western items like baked beans, all-bran, and porridge bread butter etc. Occasionally there, I might treat myself to KFC or pizza, but that's a rare indulgence. Mostly, I stick to local produce and what’s available from the village market. I recently found out from a neighbor that a daily food truck delivers fresh meat, fruits, and veggies, but I only rely on it when I’m running short. -

They've got a long history of causing issues on arrivals, what specifically did the op do against the law or rules? Raised suspicion that he may have been abusing the VE system, perhaps? What, specifically, did the IO do against the law or rules that justifies his being fired?
