Police in the Bung Kum area of Bangkok were called after a Kasetsart University student shot himself in the head in his bedroom.

Tossaporn Na Nakorn or "Oat", 24, was found dead from a single shot from a .38 revolver. He had shot himself from the right to left side of the head.

There were five more bullets left in the gun that was by the body next to a TV stand in the man's bedroom.

His father, a contractor, and mother were eating when they heard the sound of a gunshot.

Tossaporn had got the gun from his father's wardrobe.

He was an engineering student at the university's Kamphaeng Saen campus. He lived in halls and only visited his parents at their house in Soi Seri Thai 41 occasionally.

The parents told police he was stressed from still studying for a bachelor's degree years after his friends had already graduated.

An autopsy has been ordered.

This is a tragedy for the family.

However, I hope it does not lead to the relaxation of standards of education at the university level.

I really despise news articles that associate one facet of a victims life with another. In the context of the story above, maybe the deceased found out that his girlfriend is/was seeing other people, and to top it off, he has contracted HIV. Whether the bloke is a university student, or a gutter cleaner, is irrelevant. Dudu happens.

very sad story. He obviously could not handle stress and loss of face because his mates had already graduated and he hadn't therefore being a slower learner than his friends.

RIP poor kid. You will always be loved.

Being an intelligent young man with learning\attention difficulties can be a devastating life experience.

The educational system should be diligent at spotting such students and helping them climb the ladder.

So Sad.. RIP ????

Legal weapon? And keep it in the wardrobe???  Anyway, the father already got the worst possible punishment.

RIP.

The parents don’t actively get involved with depression symptoms and then easily provide the method to kill oneself....

now they can be actively involved in his death.....

Shame.  School is such pressure on many kids.

Horror for the parents to have to go thru that.

Father will live with the guilt of having the gun available.

RIP

I hate to see this.  Many people just can't make the grade, or make the grade at the same rate as others.  I graduated with a BS in Mechanical engineering , but two years time wise and 3 semesters later than the normal 4 year plan (1981).  My best friend didn't make the grade at all.  He even went back and tried night school twice over the next 15 years.  Then the machine shop he was an NC programmer in was closed and he went back full time and graduated, like 22 years later!   Several of my high school friends went to University and several of them dropped out.  Of course there is some pressure from friends, family, etc.  Thai egos seems to be fragile.  I think it stems from growing up in a place that doesn't really teach one to lose.  Growing up in the USA we failed at many things.  Pickup baseball games we would lose.  Little league we would lose.  whatever.  Winning and losing comes with life.  If you don't experience the downside growing up, then adult failures can hit hard.

Therein lays the problem... there is no safety net for anyone who is having difficulties... the "education system" as-is is busy graduating as many students as possible to appear to be good to secure future funding, they don't have time to help the less fortunate!

Thai egos are frail?

Not as frail as some posters on this forum.

For what it's worth my 15year old nephew blew his brains out in Florida,  after being apparently rejected by a girl at his high school.

Step dads revolver kept for 'protection'.
