Hello. I have been holidaying in Thailand for many years and like to stay 7 or 8 weeks, on previous trips I have applied at the Thai Embassy, London by post, by sending off my application form, passport, photos and appropriate fees, and in about a week my passport was returned to me with the Visa stamped inside.

I have heard that this is no longer possible and that the rules have changed, meaning that I now have go to London in person with relevant documents and passport to apply for the 60 day visa.

Can anyone shine any light on this and advise me please, as to give up a days work and travelling to London is a bit of a work up!

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

You have to apply online now and they want to see a ticket out and proof of at least the equivalent of  20k baht in the bank now.

After doing the online application you can send your passport and supporting documents by post along with a return envelope for it.

Info is in this topic.

Having watched that video it still says that you have to go to the Embassy to collect your passport, this is what I want to avoid, or did I not hear it properly? If you watch the video at 2 minutes 20 seconds it says you must make an appointment to collect your passport and visa from the chosen embassy.

Ignore the video for that part of the process.

Go by what the embassy website states. From the topic OP.

Sending your passport and supporting document by post is allowed after submitting application online.
"Required Documents (after 15 June 2019):

Passport/Travel Document which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of  application for single entry, or at least 1 year for multiple entry, and has at least 2 blank pages.

- Printout of visa application form submitted online, with barcode

- Original supporting documents

- Fee for return post of £10"

If you live within easy reach of one of the honorary consulates, it would be easier to get your tourist visa from there, which can be done while you wait, and I believe still needs no more than your passport, visa fee, and a small service fee.

Thanks for the info, it seems to be nearly the same procedure as before, fill in a form, post form, passport and fees, wait 4 or 5 days for stamped passport to be returned! It doesn't say anything about sending 2 recent photos, has this been stopped?

When you do the online application you will upload the photos for the application.

You will send the form from the online application they will send to you email after it is completed. "Printout of visa application form submitted online, with barcode"

Before making the online application you must register at the website and create your profile, as part of your profile you need to upload a recent photo. During the application process you will also upload the photo page of your passport.

I realize I'm the odd one out here, however.

While the op specifically asked for advice re setv, I note another part of the op.

Referring to staying 7 weeks or so at a time. There is NO limit to VE via flight. Its only a problem for folk trying to "live here".

I don't regard seven weeks or so per visit is part of that group.

So beat your brains out applying for visa if required.

Personally I would fly in VE. Then either do border bounce or visit imm for 30 day extension. 1900baht.

What am I missing.

I thought that's what VE is designed for.

I have done VEs with extensions a few times, but I did not have any back to back trips and I never had more than two visits in one year, typically separated by many months.  And I never did an extension of the VE either by Imm or by a border run more than once in any given year.   The OP may have trip combinations he is concerned about that the Thai officials will scrutinize.  But on the surface it sure seems like a simple VE should be no issue.
