Liquids, gels, sprays and food banned from Thai airports and airplanes from yesterday

D-day, huh? This has been the rule for years. How is this like d-day? Are my adrenaline levels supposed to shoot up or something? And a misleading headline used to reel you in and waste your time reading about rules you already know. I guess reading the news here is to help us memorize rules and laws, read 'em again just so as you never forget 'em because they won't be enforced anyway. We're just trying to help. Also, there is a difference between airports as a whole and passenger areas and the rule is regarding items in the passenger areas not the airport as a whole as erroneously stated in the headline. So you have fake news, not news posing as news, and then  brainfarts attached to photos and headlines  which I think we could safely say this "article" squarely belongs in the category of.

That's what I meant in 116 above when I said "This thread is only good for its comedy value - I like a good laugh!"

In this context, I believe it's the airlines shorthand for...

Liquids, Aerosols, Gels....

Not, Licking Annie's Grumble?

How disappointing........ ????

This point has been made numerous times with at least one link to show it.

And yet people are STILL posting on here as if it was a new issue.

Why it's almost as if they post without reading what went before! :cheesy:????

There’s a lot of non Thai , Farangs, whatever , living in the Kingdom and in general, but not always , I have found that the term which springs to mind when conversing with or reading about them is “ not very bright” . It is easy to see why certain  ladies of the kingdom ,although not very well educated or bright themselves,  can have such power over them and outwit them at most worldly pursuits, I.e. money matters . The exceptions almost prove the rule. Gonna get hammered for this ...

If I took your wallet and offered to return 80% of the cash in it whilst I kept 20%, would you accept?

There is an overwhelming global consensus as to who is in the wrong in regards to the Israel / Palestine conflict.

The current situation is so grossly unfair and unjust, it is the leading recruitment driver for Islamic terrorist groups.

Resolving the situation between Israel and Palestine is the most significant thing that can be done to reduce Islamic terrorism and thus return our "carrying liquids on planes" privelages.

Without unquestioned US support, both financial and military aid, Israel won't win too many wars.

The century of US unilateralism is coming to an end.

It is in Israel's own best interest to seek a long term resolution.

(If you ever want to carry your toothpaste on a plane again, it's in your best interest too.)

It will never happen as long as the terrorist HAMAS control Palestine.

Yeaas. But don't you fuccking worry about that old mate. Cause you'll no doubt find it on sale at duty free in KIngs for double the price you paid at the supermarket. Like everyfuckingthing else that other airports let you go through customs with but they pull you up and make you ditch before you get through security. If they don't snag you while you're there, they'll slice'n'dice you as you leave.  Yul Yuk Yuk. A tourist's paradise. Not...

This is an example of a misleading headline in a Thai Visa email.  The headline makes it look like this is some huge, earth shattering change.

In fact, nothing new is being implemented.  The same policies for liquids and gels, etc... are simply going to be ENFORCED more strictly at domestic airports where they previously have been less strictly enforced.  I do not see anything new here.

Food products, if liquid/gelatinous/paste, are also subject to the same restrictions regarding liquids around the world. That is of course in addition to any prohibition of food items on international flights for reasons other than security.

Yet they keep on confiscating, and dumping that possible security risk just in a flimsy bin right near to where it was confiscated from. Now if they really did have serious concerns for peoples safety and health then please <deleted> dumb it in bins net to the security screen ????????

????❤️????????☺️????

Just more confiscated stuff for the airport staff to take home

Yes, and one of the staff has my small swiss army knife (65mm). Some will say knives are generally forbidden in hand luggage. Before taking the domestic flight from BKK to CNX, I've passed through two security checks on two different international airports and no one cared about the tiny knife.

Well they are banned but you should have been aware of that.  But anyway I can never understand why credit cards or the like are not banned. You make a 60 degree point on a credit card or any plastic card and it becomes quite a lethal weapon, used by many in the past to cause very grave injuries to the neck.  My point is where does it stop ?  They ban so many things these days but overlook one of the most common obvious potential weapons, the plastic card being one example.

Another potential weapon is of course the ladies bra. Women perhaps  should be made to remove them at the security checks.  They have the potential to be dangerous too ????

Upon re-read, you may well be right....  though the article would have/should have said CARRY ON luggage if that's what they really meant!

And the article headline doesn't help:

This is Thailand, there is no clarity about anything.  Makes it easier to collect fines when no-one understands the rules.

"All items must be under 100 milliliters or they cannot come into passenger areas or be carried on planes."

So I believe the option is still there to put it in your checked in luggage?

I believe so but I (have been) carrying a small insulated poly box of frozen goodies in my carry on – do not check in baggage on domestic flights as no need, plus the extra cost. Also there is the extra time the check in bags can sit in the sum warming up before loading/unloading

That's surprising, since it's kind of hard to make a bomb or other explosive device out of solid CHEESE!!! (I think!) -- But still should be allowed in your checked-in bags, since today's announcement appears to only pertain to carry-on luggage.

Who did the wife contact to pose that question???

PS - It's kind of funny. Every now and again, my wife flies upcountry to visit her family. And because I liked it when I've visited with her parents before, her Mom always cooks up a big batch of panang curry that my wife ends up carrying back for me on the airplane in her carry-on luggage using those plastic "Safe Lock" food boxes.

I'm not so sure about your cheese... But based on today's announcement, I'm pretty sure my mother in law's panang curry is going to be a No-No for the future in my wife's carry-on bags!!!

The wife phoned her friend who works on the X-Ray machine before the lounge - they have been given instructions

Very true.  I used to buy all sorts of 'contraband' from a neighbour who worked at BKK at knockdown prices - especially gin & whiskey.
