Today (June 1 2019) - Thai Buddhist holy day?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does today have any special religious significance?  In the morning?  Just curious about some local goings ons.

Thank you

Yesterday, July 1 was "new moon" day.

"day 1" of the lunar month.

Not a big holiday just a special day in the moon cycle.

People visiting the temple. Bit like a Sunday for Christians?

"new moon": they don't exactly follow astronomical dates (3rd July).

All a mystery to me.

For July the days are 1, 9, 16, 24, 31 (start of next lunar month).

July 16, full moon, is one of the most important Buddhist holidays:

Asanha Bucha (Asalha Puja).

There you will observe much more going on.

A public holiday.

As I have very limited knowledge of Buddhism you should better look for an expert.
