I have been offered 1 Rai of land near beach and nice view of the sea

through close friend of my Thai wife. Very genuine I assure you. Wants about 8 mill.

Any opinions about price most welcome.

In UK at present but due over in June.

Also any guidance with respect to nice location.

Thanks.

If very genuine, why ask here then?

Seriously, rent for a few months, and get the Island in your blood, then you will know if TW's friend is genuine!

and other questions will fall in place.

Thanks for comment but just trying to do my homework first.

Any places to avoid bearing in mind I have family?

Do the people who attend Full Moon parties cause a problem?

Thanks again.

I think he is right to inquire on thaivisa jenstral!....whats wrong with asking people with a bit of knowledge and wisdom of samui.?....fortunately this doesnt include you.....I think it would be best to do a google search on various SAMUI LAND AND HOUSE...estate agents for their professional advice....Good luck with your search PEPI 1.

I think he only wants clarification on price.

8 mil is in my opinion a bit expensive for land that is not on the beach directly.

I would think 4 mil would be more realistic.

As far as Samui and Full Moon parties and what to avoid.

I would say that for a foreign family, this is NOT the place to be.

Never mind the party people, they are harmless.

Worry more about jealous locals who will come slit your throat to steal a 10,000 Baht gold chain - then get 5 years jail for their trouble - and your life.

Good luck.

Way overpriced but land on Samui is going that way so it probably is the going rate.

As soon as they know a farang is interested, up goes the price.

Nobody can say it's over priced without seeing the land and knowing the location and facilities that may be near . It may be fairly priced but does sound high - so check out many of the on line agents in Samui and compare prices for similar land in the same location remembering that prices that are advertised are never normally acheived so knock off say 20% from list price .

location location location 8 million in chaweng ok 8 million in ban saket no as said before check out the estate agents here and get a better idea see the land surrounding area ie next field pig farm or mansion power and water access land title etc :o

Check 1Rai.com and look at the prices of similar pieces of land - we've currently got 607 pieces of land on Samui listed by lots of different agents. You can then ask them direct questions by email.

I agree - One can always find cheap land - next to the disco or whatever - but if you want the best location the price is always high and in the end if you can afford it , in my opinion you will not loose - always go for the best location - when prices fall the ones who suffer most are those with properties in the least favourable locations that noboby wants whatever the price !

Another good reason for seeing the land & Location and living here awile before comitting to a buy, don't rush, there is plenty of prime land still.

8 million could be a reasonable price, as is said before, it depends on the location, as their are beach plots going for a lot more than that in some areas and less than that in other areas..if you havent lived here before, the best advice is to spend 3 months or longer here, and get to know the Island, it might not be your cup of tea...there is an extremely high murder rate (granted usually thai on thai) gun crime is high, the roads are bad, and lots of traffic accidents...the thai police are a waste of space, and land prices here are artificially high...also coupled with this is the ever changing rule book about land ownership, that seems to be permanently bashing the foreigner..You should also check out the rules (yeah right) about construction, as if it is beach front land, then there are restrictions to what size of construction you can put up...No matter how well you know the seller, do not trust him outright, you can usually tell a Thai businessman is lying when you see his lips move.

You have to be able to accept the Thai way, if you ever want to settle here happily.

You need to disclose some more information, say location, location and the location. Other things that matter: concrete road access, road width, electricity, access legally cleared.

All I can say now that if it's not in a prime location, 8 mln is expensive. A thai asking price is always too high and negotiable. Especially in these times.

Lastly, even the most sympathetic Thai wife friend (especially those) can turn out to be utter scum, so be careful.

Sorry, but this is the most salient advice so far.

This and the "Run, run, run" comment.

An old friend said to me once, "Why tell the truth if you can think of a better lie?" He could have been talking about Samui folk.
