Thailand plans series of world class cross-country running events

 

 

Thailand’s Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is considering the launch of a series of international standard cross-country running tournaments to boost tourism. While the idea is at an early stage of development, the Prime Minister is seeking input from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE).

 

The runs will take place along defined trails in all four regions of Thailand, with the first planned Kanchanaburi province.

 

Officials are working on the design of the routes, in order to offer participants with the most interesting and varied terrain, from forest trails to mountain passes, which are already of interest to the younger, environmentally aware generation.

Lets hope for the environmentally aware generation that the sugar cane farmers refrain from burning their crops and that the locals will pick up their garbage.

 

Having seen the amount of plastic on the beaches and in some of the presteen forests lately, I doubt this will be a succes.

 

Dont want to be a Thailand basher, but a big part of the country is so filthy at this moment, that a big clean up is necessary before advertising it as an eco destination.

 

 

They already have cross country races here. Many through out the year staged in different areas. I ran a great one last November in Chiang Rai. What is this guy talking about?

There will be an immigration booth at the start line........????

yes and Thailand is adding the AQI PM 500 to the route design. And no masks allowed. Athletes from all over the world will be flocking to this new challenge in Thailand.

I remember being in CM smoky season once there was some kind of running marathon outside in March. They really think it is fun?

Short of news so they beat up something that already exists.  Not really newsworthy anyway - Cross-country running is a huge sport with venues common worldwide.

 

Sort of like the roman "bread and circuses " thing done by the Greek politicians - keep the peasants minds off the real problems - Next will be the Marie Antoinette response when the4 French populace - so starved - ran out of bread.  Her answer? - "give them cake"

If they cross a boundary into a different province I presume they will need to stop and visit immigration to have their new TM30 registered. 

 

Or will they be arrested for working, or not haveing the correct “go for a run” visa or otherwise just abused, branded as a criminal, perhaps sent to the detention centre to await deportation?

 

Thailand, you have abused your visitors for too long, nobody will want to run in your idiotically run country. There is a pay back at some point for your xenophobia, racism, greed, dishonesty, small mindedness, nastiness, abuse and arrogance.

 

Screw your cross country run.

The wife does enough of these already ,so tell this guy not to encourage her????

These poor people will be shocked for life when they come across heaps of plastic trash along those trails, degraded forests and denuded hills, illegal logging operations, burning fields belching out huge plumes of black smoke, biologically-dead ponds and the like.

I think they should round up all pot-bellied bar-flys on Soi Bukow and have some world class marathon competition.....They could run 2 blocks...Marathon over......lol

Mine too. However, hers is limited to and from the toilet after too much somtam.

And TM 30 booth at the finish to register your new location, of course you will need to redo it once you get back home.

And they'll stuff you up with 'elf insurance at the airport for competitors of that one .. This all sounds a bit of a " wing " and prayer to me but while they are at it why not find a really steep hill and a big round of cheese and try abit of cheese rolling/chasing ..

Coopers Hill in Gloucestershire was I believe the original location.

Probably here it will be compulsory to drink an entire bottle of Lao Kao yourself first, before attempting suicide cheese rolling.

And they'll need to queue in each province to lodge a TM28. Or be fined multiple times at the finish line. Welcome to Thailaaan!

Indeed .. And only those with a liking for hospital food really take it seriously .. 

Kanchanaburi is a nice spot to start a race but what about all the rabbid  soi dogs that run riot there?

A farangs bare leg will be a tasty morsel for them.

Immigration police are also aggressive in that region.

There is one of these up a mountain and back close to our place near Pua. First three bookings for our new homestay are for participants. Will be jacking up the price next year now that I know about it.
