The Basic Education Commission will next month submit the student admission plan for the 2020 academic year to the education minister for approval, the chairman of the commission said this week.

Ekkachai Kisukphan, chairman of the Basic Education Commission, said the commission has approved in principle the student admission plan for schools under the Office of Basic Education Commission for the 2020 school year.

He said the draft plan is expected to be sent to Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan for deliberation and approval within August.

Ekkachai added that the plan is aimed at centralizing power with the provincial education committees and office of education zones to make final decisions on how to recruit students for public schools in their areas.

He said the OBEC only set general guidelines for the provincial education committees and education zone offices. These guidelines include the requirement for all public schools to accept students at the same time and that the number of students per class for secondary school must not be more than 40 and no greater than 30 for kindergarten classes.

Ekkachai said it would be up to the provincial committees and education zone offices to decide whether to accept students using the entrance exam system in cases where schools are popular and many students compete for seats. Currently, most public schools are required to accept students through a draw should the number of applications exceed the number of seats available in each class.

those numbers are almost double what they should be so the teachers can give their students an equal chance to learn and why it seems that most aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed >
