It is nearly nine years since a deadly crash that saw nine people killed in a Thammasat University van that was hit by then 16 year old Orachorn "Praewa" Thephasadin Na Ayudhya. She did some community service and no prison time.

Which of the following options best describes your opinion on whether the rich get by with too much?

I answered that the rich get away with too much almost everywhere but is particularly abused in Thailand by what they call the HiSo people. When they finally bring the Red Bull punk in and give hm some real jail time for killing a cop, then I might say things are getting better. There is no excuse, at least no logical and truthful one, that he hasn't been brought back. They know where he is. PM Prayut, please show us your promise of anti-corruption and get the little weasel,

We are forgetting about the drunken teen in Texas who smashed up his parents' car driving the wrong way on a highway and killing 4 innocents.....he was suffering from 'affluenza" according to an 'expert' and therefore only got probation as his penalty.

Hw about Jeffrey Archer, convicted and jailed but let out every day ti work and at weekends to attend parties....he was allowed to park his Jag in the prison grounds?

Or Jeffrey Epstein a child sex trafficker with powerful friends who was convicted and severed a short jail sentences where he was allowed out of jail every day.

There is absolutely no accountability for the 'powerful' (not the rich...I am rich but not powerful)....unless they break the code and offend the even more powerful. Think Mohammed Bone Saw if you don't believe me.....where are his sanctions?

Yes, he is on TV every two weeks in the Red Bull pits. Very difficult to find.

No bribery involved, just waiting on Thailand to have the request translated into English, you know these things take time, but they are pushing ahead as fast as they can.

He's no longer on their list, is he ??

Thai cops removed him and then denied they did. ????

Fortunately ! Yes, the rich can pretty much do as they please in Thailand without legal reprecussions.

What would be the purpose of being rich if we were not above the law ?!

Although the structure of the society has historically allowed the upper class to get away with pretty much whatever they wanted, I think that social media is starting to act as a great equalizer.   The rich and connected still get away with more than most places, but it's not nearly as easy as in the past.

That is not the truth. The search warrant was taking down by the Thai government, after roughly two weeks on display.

"Do the rich get by with too much?" should be "Do the rich get away with too much?"

As I have now had my piss poor journalism pedantic moment for the day I can now go to the pub and annoy someone in person ;+)

Precisely.  Get by = survive. Get away= evade responsibility. Both multi word idiomatic verbs with completely different meanings.  Makes a nonsense of the questionnaire.

Same in the USA and UK rich whites get away with crimes that blacks get put in prison for. Thailand is just a bit more blatant.

I went with the first choice, though I was swayed by the third. It's always a complex discussion regarding social media - it can often have unintended and far reaching consequences, with things that seem to be having a positive effect at one time backfiring later on. The Red Bull heir is still free, so is the panther poacher, so no justice has been served in either of those cases. General Rolex weasled his way out of almost a year of unwelcome media scrutiny with the lamest of excuses. The campaign against him eventually missed the target, but succeeded in making him a much more derided public figure, and in so doing it must have pushed his loathing of foreigners to new levels. It's no secret that last year his BFF Big Joke was given a mandate to go after foreigners in a much more aggressive manner, both in terms of street searches and crackdowns, and in terms of immigration policy. This has continued apace with BJ's replacement, making it feel like there's an element of retribution in the whole thing. To mangle a couple of proverbs, perhaps wise to be careful what you wish for, since what doesn't kill someone first time round might just make them stronger.
