One day down one day up, ground business reports down, anyone with eyes would report lulling and trent changes over last several years.

TAT always manage make it unrealistically yearly increases and astounding spending figures lol.

Amount of closed business and lack of flight increases don't back these figures up .

If figures true on increases they claim every year why they not built another main airport or increased flights .

Same calculator that done the election count I guess !

It is the long-term trend that shows the problem. Total international arrivals have not gone up sufficiently to add 30M tourists claimed.

AOT's numbers are probably accurate, since they are just counting warm bodies, the math looks like this.

81 million - 1 million transit /2 = 40 million

40 million - 10 million (Thai outbound) = 30 million foreigners (tourist in TAT jagon) arriving by air.

How many arrive at various land borders?

If 8 million, then we have TAT's magic 38 million number from 2018.

I just cant stop say 555. About every day we see reports that tourism is going down, but yet TAT is saying it is going up. Even if we look worldwide tourism is going down because of the unsafe economical situation, but that is not the case for Thailand according to TAT. How they think they fool. On the other hand we all no that logic and mathematic is not what thai people are famous for.

Hey TAT, I like the optimistic, happy - go get em, sing it loud and proud like the Von trapp kids attitude. At least no one can say you guys were ever pessimistic. I see where you guys are coming from - It's kinda like what my shrink says, "close your eyes, take a deep breath, imagine the positive number and SAY IT LIKE YOU BELIEVE IT!"

Can we get a "Yay!" for 9% increase in tourist numbers in July?

That appears to be correct, but that is "only" 638,000 passengers.

"The airlines performance ranks the number of passengers carried by airlines in 2018. This included all type of passengers; i.e. embarked, disembarked, transit and transfer for both scheduled and nonscheduled operations."

2018 2.jpg

That shows 25 million international passengers - including Thais and visa runners

So maybe 20 million real international tourists per year?

The 25 million is only for Swampy. Add DM, Phuket, CM, CR, Hat Yai and you have just above 40 million international arrivals.

Thailand is great for first timers that don't loose their senses when they get off the plane.

After a few times to Thailand it is what the hell did I come back here for... haha.

wonderful.  but does anyone know why Greta Thunberg was offered a ride across the Atlantic on a racing yacht? why she couldn't just "fly" on one of the 225,000 airplanes that are almost always flying somewhere and..... took decades to build?

and that industry insiders who are optimistic of a solution for long haul travel say we could solve it in 15 to 20 years....followed by many more years of air safety testing and public acceptance followed by decades to replace the existing air fleet followed by 15 to 20 more years for the latency of CO2 as a GHG to it's initial climate effects.

and that it is not "only 2 pct" of global emissions for social and political purposes because that is only done by inherently dividing air travel by all 7,800 million of us but 6,400 million even today have never been in an airplane even once in their life yet.

this is the first baby step... air travel... we will take when we finally get serious about 'Climate'' and stop talking about is as being about "ice melting" and mysterious "fossil fuel companies" because the reason we are building a better border wall along Mexico is that the man from New York City who owns expensive golf resorts, hotels and casinos has always had to understand this issue. and he does. but there will be a knee jerk political and social backlash on air travel and tourism... it will build and build from here out.

CORSIA offsets in 2027 is the clever and desperate attempt by aviation to head this off. it won't work.

Immigration would know how many of those are Thai. If I had to guess I'd say 1/3, just based on what you see at the immigration in swampy. Then the people who don't transit inside the airport, but need to pick up bags and check in again to another airline and won't stay in Thailand, etc. 20M foreigners arriving and staying at least one night in Thailand would be my guess.

Ok, I do not argue with you (yet), but what is your point according to the subject?

I think the figures are in here.  https://www.airportthai.co.th/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Annual-Airport-2017.pdf

The transit movement seem quite small, more like 3% but it's getting late.

That's a lengthy report, but worth to read!
IMO it can help to resolve the real number of (international) tourist arrival:

According to Table 17, e.g. 2018:

maximum "Tourists"

=>(22.883067 - 4.166.449 Thai nationals)arrivals

= 18.716.568 (international) persons arriving at the airports of Thailand!

To calculate the in/decrease of tourists you could use the difference

(disembarked/arrival - embarked/departure)-numbers between years...
That gives me for 2017/2018 a decrease of  -2,43 %

I hope my reflections/calculations are correct...

if not: correct me, not critisize me please!
