Hiv selftest

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I read that hiv selftests have recently become available in Thailand but can't find much more information about them. What are the available ones called and can I get these at any pharmacy? Are there any oral ones like oraquick in Thailand?

It's just for a one time check because of an unprotected encounter I had a few years ago, I'm aware that it isn't entirely accurate in the first 3 months etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Where are you based? its easy to get a cheap quick test at a lab or clinic, i wouldn't bother with a home test

Hua Hin but also spend a lot of time in bkk so either place is fine. I'm familiar with the med labs, I just like the idea of quickly pricking my finger at home over going for a bloodtest at a clinic.

I'm in Pattaya so know the cheaper places there, in Bangkok, i only know the Thai Red Cross near Nana, test is 200 baht

i can't help you with the home test, but Hua Hin hospital has a VIP desk for farangs on the ground floor. If you feel uncomfortable asking only for a HIV test, get the full STD test which includes HIV. Takes about two hours to get the results. It is very inexpensive.

Think about why you want to do the test at home.

Have a plan whom to talk to if it's positive.

It can be positive even if it's done at home. Don't be on your own, get support.

does anyone know if the test kit (ora quick I believe) is for sale at any pharmacy /hospital anywhere in Thailand (since it has been approved for over-the-counter sale)?  It is Oral Swab I think must less intrusive than needle...

Thanks for all the replies but I'm still hoping to get an answer on my original question. The odds of me having caught it are very slim, and I would really just prefer a hometest to give me a total peace of mind.

These tests have a very high accuracy nowadays and back in the west they've pretty much become the norm. If the result were to be positive I would ofcourse go to an actual hospital for a verification.

Alternatively I could order one from amazon from the US, but I'm not sure if this would cause a problem at customs.

I found this one with some more googling. Looks to be the same thing and is approved by the US gov.
