BANGKOK, 1st August 2019 (NNT) - In a highly competitive economy, the restaurant business is likely to grow. To enhance the quality of Thai food, the Department of Business Development (DBD) has, therefore, developed the Thai SELECT brand to guarantee the quality of restaurants. Over 200 Thai restaurants have been selected this year.

Mr. Wutthikrai Leeweeraphan, DBD Director-General, granted the second batch of Thai SELECT certificates to 225 Thai restaurants of the 800 restaurants participating in the project. They meet the quality criteria of authentic Thai restaurants with at least 80 percent Thai food on their menu. They must follow Thai cooking standards and use Thai ingredients and seasoning. The food’s taste and quality must be excellent. The restaurants must be beautifully decorated and offer excellent service.

Thai SELECT certificates have been awarded to 798 restaurants in all regions of the country to guarantee their quality. The restaurants were classified into three categories: Thai SELECT PREMIUM, Thai SELECT and Thai SELECT UNIQUE with the local identity. The DBD has cooperated with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Wong Nai and Grab Food applications to promote Thai SELECT restaurants. The DBD aims to expand the project since the restaurant business has grown by at least five percent per year. In 2018, there were more than 231,900 restaurants in Thailand, with a total turnover of more than 420 billion baht.
