Thailand’s bilateral meetings

BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand has taken the opportunity to hold talks with foreign ministers of non-ASEAN countries who have participated in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting. For instance, the Thailand-China meeting focused on cordial bilateral relationships, which could be developed further in connection with the ASEAN region.

At a news conference, jointly held by Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, the atmosphere of the bilateral meeting was said to be very friendly. China refered to the good bilateral relationships and promotion of bilateral strategic development in all areas. Thailand and China will cooperate in the implementation of the One Belt, One Road Initiative. Thailand and China will co-pioneer regional cooperation and steer Southeast Asian development plans.

The Chinese foreign minister commented on the release of water through dams in Chinese territory, in the face of drought in neighboring countries due to a reduced level of water in the Mekong River. Mr Yi said it involved the livelihoods of people along the international river and that China has also been affected by drought. China made a sacrifice by releasing water to Thailand and other affected countries.

He commented that more water this year has been released than during last year and that such bilateral cooperation will be provided to solve any problem which might arise. Both upstream and downstream water management plans will be carried out in the course of sustainable development.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Mr. Don discussed bilateral cooperation relating to unconventional security threats, such as terrorism, cyber crime and natural disasters. Both exchanged views on Indo-Pacific cooperation.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Jaime Antonio Pomareda Montenegro signed a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) during the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bangkok. Peru plans to promote relationships and cooperation with ASEAN. TAC is a major treaty for the promotion of peace and stability in Southeast Asia. Peru is the TAC’s 38th member country.

No, they did not make any sacrifice. They are at the top of the water distribution chain after building a hydropower dam. That means they are the ones that ultimately stops the water for all the others down the line. Releasing water is not a sacrifice from them. They are obligated to do so.  If there were no dams, then water would be flowing as usual. They are stealing the water.

Only China and Russia mentioned-such is the future

China signed a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with S.E.Asia in 2003.

The Treaty of Amity and Cooperation is a peace and cooperation treaty with S.E. Asian countries.

Judging by the Mekong debacle and the water they have stolen from their nearby friendly S.E. Asian countries the Treaty is not worth the paper it's written on.

So why doesn't big brave Don tell him so?.......gutless!

I don't get that this is news. I thought that China and Thailand were always talking with each other.
