The Republicans own this disaster, entirely.

There is always going to be guns, racism, and whackos. The only way to stop this is preventative law enforcement: The "red flags" action is a start. For this to really be effective surveillance ,searches and seizures of suspects must be in force. Now you tell me whether it would be democrats or republicans that would not allow this. I'll answer this for you : for democrats civil liberties are more important than public safety.

I'm not sure the best use of everyone's attention and energy at this point is of debating what this or that shooter's motivations, political or otherwise, might have been.

The essential point in all these cases is the shooters are nut jobs who never should have been given access to weapons of mass murder. And the reason they've been able to gain that access time after time is the NRA and the Republican party for years have blocked or diluted any kind of legislation that would have stopped these kinds of mass murder massacres, by outlawing those kinds of weapons and/or making them much more difficult to obtain.

I asked the question earlier and no one ever answered it, of course: what legitimate need does any American civilian have for possessing assault rifles and other automatic weapons with the capability of near instantaneous mass murder? The answer of course is absolutely none. But that hasn't stopped the NRA and Republicans, by their inaction, from giving these nut jobs easy access to those kinds of weapons of mass murder.

That's the essential point here, and the essential difference between Trump, McConnell and their lackeys on one side, and most or all of the Democratic presidential candidates.

Americans have a basic choice here: one side is willing to allow the mass slaughter of American to continue unabated, and the other side is trying to take meaningful actions to stop it. That's what Americans ought to be focusing on right now. Too many people have already needlessly died.

Whether left, right or center, Americans deserve to be protected from weapons of mass murder by outlawing those weapons in the country and taking steps to begin taking the ones that already exist out of circulation.

The left hasn't done anything about gun control Clinton and Obama.  Right hasn't done anything.  With 400,000,000 guns in the hands of shooting crazed Americans what do you think anyone can do?

Try telling that to the grieving relatives of this left-wing, Trump-hating fan of Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and supporter of Antifa's thuggish antics.

His twitter account - quickly taken down and largely ignored by the mass media (surprise, surprise) re-tweeted a message "I want socialism and I'll not wait for the idiots to finally come around to understanding".

Clearly he was talking about voting in the 2020 election.

If the shooting was politically motivated the shooter would have written a manifesto saying as much.

Few terrorists write manifestos spelling out their motives. Often the clues can be found elsewhere, in this case on the deleted Twitter account - studiously ignored by mainstream media because it didn't fit their blame-Trump-for-everything narrative.

What's left? The usual right wing excuse when a white guy starts shooting: he is a sick individual.

A lot of lefties ARE sick, if some of the loony policies they support are anything to go by.

The topic is about how this is all Trump’s fault, quit deflecting.

If you wanna have a legitimate debate, that's fine. But stop spewing outright falsehoods.

You know the Democratic Congress passed and President Clinton signed the 10 year assault weapons ban back in 1994 over Republican objections. And likewise, I'm sure you're aware that Republicans in Congress blocked President Obama's attempts at gun control legislation, forcing him to take action by executive order because Republicans in Congress refused. And those exec orders were ones that Trump subsequently rescinded.

Democrats have been the ONLY ones doing and trying to do anything about limiting the invasion of weapons of mass murder all these years... And the only reason they couldn't do more than they did, was widespread Republican refusal.

Stop the flow of new weapons of mass murder. And explore what legal options are available to remove/outlaw the ones that already exist.  After that, other options can be considered.

But you're being disingenuous... Because you know as well as I, that for years now, anytime anyone has proposed doing anything to restrict or do anything about gun possession, Republicans outright refuse and cry like stuck pigs. So your talk about searches and seizures, relating to guns, is a dead issue for Republicans.

Even the left is not stupid enough to clime he actually pulled the trigger.

He seems to be the only "contributing factor" I've heard about. Besides, I thought you said he was not a contributing factor in the Dayton shooting. It's nice (albeit not surprising) your on board with blaming him now.

Your little laughing friend in a response to mass murder sums up your view nicely.

I'm laughing at an addlebrained president who, when faced with a national tragedy and mass murder, can even get the correct city right.

If I wasn't laughing at that, I'd certainly be crying, that Trump and his ilk have contributed to mass murder in America.

Will be shutting down the airline industry as well? Remember, there were some people that did something on 9/11...

If the U.S. had done half as much to deal with gun violence and the easy availability of weapons of mass murder as the country has done with aviation security and restrictions since 9/11, a lot fewer Americans would be dead from gun violence.

The post 9/11 measures imposed to make aviation safe and protect from hijackings are numerous and involved as every traveler knows. The measures imposed in the U.S. to keep weapons of mass murder out of the hands of killers and lunatics are virtually none.

Thanks for putting forward a good example that supports my case....

Disingenuous is conflating removing guns from law abiding citizens who have them for self defense and sport with removing guns from whackos who have a history.

Do you really feel safer with all those "welfare to work" program graduates going through your bags?

I get it, guns scare you and you want the government to protect you.

The dems should grow some hair on their a** and amend the Constitution. They have all this public support, why not move on it?

I think records indicate that more than 50% of the guns in America are owned by about 3% of the population. About 150 million guns in the hands of about 10 million people. Not saying they're whackos (beyond being gun nuts), but how many weapons does one person need for self defense and/or sport?

And planes are made to kill people are they?

Also note that to get on a plane you need security checks. You also have a snowballs chance in hell of getting into a cockpit these days.

Didnt hear people complain too much about their right to fly with no safety measures.

what makes his comment particularly cluess is that certain aspects of gun control is actually overwhelmingly popular when broken down into specifics like background checks. A recent Fox News poll confirms this.

Fox News Poll: Voters favor gun measures, doubt Congress will act

By a 13-point margin, voters consider protecting against gun violence more important than protecting gun rights (53-40 percent).

In addition, there’s substantial support for specific measures to reduce gun violence, including: requiring criminal background checks on all gun buyers (91 percent), requiring mental health checks on all gun buyers (84 percent), raising the age to buy all guns to 21 (72 percent), putting armed guards in schools (69 percent), and banning assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons (60 percent).

What's it's really all about for Republicn politicians is the funding and support of the NRA which functions like a arm of the Republican party.

Republicans, at least in the past, not sure about Trump now, were fine to protect Americans from foreign terrorists...

But these days, Trump and his fellow Republicans are NOWHERE in terms of protecting Americans from DOMESTIC terrorists...  Instead, sadly, they're perfectly fine allowing pretty much anyone who wants one to go out and obtain a weapon of mass murder.  And the result of that inaction now is very clear.
