A high-ranking official at the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has been found to have falsely declared his assets, which are actually estimated at about 260 million baht.

The name of the official has been withheld and he is being allowed to work as normal because, at this stage, he is still regarded as innocent and not involved in corruption, but falsely declared his assets, said NACC secretary-general Worawit Sukboon today.

He explained that NACC officials from the level of a director upward, including officials tasked with investigation and examining assets, are legally required to declare their assets to the NACC every three years while they are in service, and when they leave service, in order to comply with good governance rules.

Any surprise .. Avarice outweighs scruples any day for some ..

So far he has only been accused of not declaring his assets, no suggestion of corruption or avarice or allegations that his assets may have dubious sources.  So far.

"Oh you mean that 260 million, it really belongs to the wife. She just told me that she saved it from the housekeeping I give her. Just a misunderstanding."

That's old school.

"My dead friend gave it to me. He won it at a casino."

Now, this is a solid excuse. It has been proven. ????

is this a surprise to anyone

they just can't help themselves dipping/creating any pot they can get their thieving hands on, if the Thai people realised how much public money (their money) ended up in deep official pockets there would be an uprising - they would of course need to understand just how much money all those zero's (billions) actually was, I think the average Thai can just about get their head around what a million baht is

It starts at the top

It surprises me that a nation so conscious with buddhism does not re-appropriate the funds to parks, recreation, schools and medical so that it is made merit from

It really also surprises me that no official stands up with that rhetoric - where is the passionate thai that speaks his mind loudly and rallies the people? Have i missed something.... Would love to see it happen

"In assets examination, he explained that officials of one department will be investigated by officials of the other department, in compliance with the check-and-balance practice."

So who bitched on him? Petty office jealousy?

Probably seeing as no one values principles in 2019 sadly

It''s simply comes to strengthen the common knowledge that those 'gate keepers' the public is trusting to mange the country are most of the time no better than the common thieves and swindlers and in most cases, even worse...

If he has been found to have "falsely declared his assets",then that is a big suggestion of corruption, and they are not accusing him they are stating that he did it.

Ah, so you mean he won't be made to sit next to police officers in front of cameras pointing at a load of loot on a table?

I guess the idea of suspending someone here doesn't count either.

All Thais are equal under the eyes of the law ????
