While eating lunch today at The Bus Stop on Soi 4, I spied a sticky-fingered little thief laying low but slowly creeping towards my plate. I didn't assume he was a thief at the time for several reasons: It was broad daylight and these guys usually emerge after dark. I doubted he was brave enough to come close to me. And I was sure nothing on my plate would appeal to him. But, sure enough, he snatched some rice from my plate and darted just out of arm's length to devour it. That attracted the attention of a second thief, and then a third. Not really wanting their germs on my plate, I set some rice out on the table as an offering. They dined and dashed several times, it was obvious they had experience.

 

Little geckos about five inches long that I thought only ate insects, but google showed me afterwards that I wasn't the first to observe geckos eating rice. I was surprised when the first one charged my plate and made off with a mouthful. Cute little guys.

Don't eat them though!!!
