Larger bottles proportionally lose more gas than smaller bottles which can vary dependent on age and storage conditions. Other beverages suffer similarly (including beers). An example being that to open a Thai beer needs 1 white knuckle of force. A western imported beer needs two white knuckles of force and I've no reason to believe screw top seals are any different. Cans are less susceptible yet create a difference of their own.

Coke, pepsi, supermarket home brand cola, diet, non-diet, they all taste exactly the same to me. I drink far too much diet coke when I’m in Thailand or Europe, as that’s the only diet soft drink I can find. In Australia, I drink diet lemon squash and passion fruit sodas, maybe not as bad for health as diet coke.

Could be true that alacriry. But it's more likely to be the water. The water for the zero has different chemicals put in than the regular coke. As the main man in Udon Thani once said. Never drink the local tap water or zero coke. Drink only bottled water or regular cola. Can be sure of Lao khow however. Should stick with that. jak2002003
See all the old myths and internet 'news' stories about the diet coke / sodas are still widely believed. The poster saying its a junk unhealthy zero nutritional calories drink.... you could say the same about water! This coke zero is basically just carbonated water with sweetener and caffeine added. Even the colouring is naturally derived. Other poster saying it's TOXIC. What a joke. Does that poster only drink spring water? Even organic fruit juice has been hailed the most toxic drink... actually being linked to cancer with a lot more evidence than diet sodas. Diet drinks DO NOT made people fat. That is scientifically impossible... you need calories to gain weight. Also Stevia and even artificial sweeteners do not 'trick' your body into releasing insulin (another lie). People spouting such rubbish really need to look are real science and nutrition... and body chemistry.. rather than reading the attention grabbing junk news that is plastered on their newsfeeds and facebook on a daily basis. OP. The difference in taste you are noticing is most likely down to the amount of gas in the drink. As another poster said.. small bottles and cans contain more gas than the larger plastic bottles. I liked the poster saying the diet drinks were made from unsafe tap water, and the full sugar ones from the filtered water.... that is a new myth I had never know before. If it contains artificial sweeteners (Ugh) they're more unhealthy than sugar additives. As are all similar soft drinks marketed today. As for stevia, being a plant extract, it probably is the best - and less likely to be harmful to health -alternative to sugar and sweeteners. Why anyone would consume sugar, however, is beyond me. If it had been discovered today, it would have been banned as a toxic substance. If artificial sweeteners were so bad for you why do they give it to diabetics like me instead of sugar in hospitals ?? Firstly, sorry to hear of your diabetes. If it's type 1 you need insulin. If it's type 2 you don't. However, sugar will spike an insulin response, and you'll need higher and higher doses to combat insulin resistance. It's like adding gasoline to a fire. Better to avoid sugar altogether especially those in soft drinks - and train your palate to avoid artificial sweeteners, because there is a tenuous (but unproven) link to being a cancer risk. You don't want to add risks, do you? IMO, drinking Coke in any shape or form is a health risk that you can avoid. The good news is that diabetes 2 can be reversed - yes, really - by eliminating sugar completely from your diet. You won't need the meds hospital gives you. But it is important to consult with a 'nutrition-minded' doctor before making any changes to your regime, and ensure frequent blood sugar tests are carried out daily. If you need more info, message me.

I would say controlled.. not reversed.. reversed sounds like cured and its not cured because the moment you add carbs / sugars in your diet it comes back not like with healthy individuals. The link is unproven so that is not real strong evidence. I would say that these artificial sweeteners are an step up from sugary drinks. You want to go for a perfect solution. That is not obtainable for everyone. I would say try to go without these drinks but if you cant they are better then the alternative. moe666
I use to live in New Mexico, USA we could get coke produced in Mexico, they use cane sugar in Mexico instead of the corn sugar. There is defiantly a difference in taste between the two. Thailand recieves the syrup from the Coca Cola company, it is then processed with local water and I assume local sugar in the regular coke. All of the diet stuff is probably processed in the same way but they add the different artificial sweetners instead of the sugars.

I would suggest that anyone who (medically) doesn't have diabetes is not diabetic. Once off meds, keeping an eye on blood sugar - and by pursuing a more healthy nutrition regime and lifestyle, any reoccurrence of a pre-diabetic condition is minimised. As is the actuality of any disease, returning to a lifestyle and 'diet', that is medically evidenced in bringing about the condition, is avoidable. Unfortunately, both doctors and patients rely on treatment rather than prevention.
