Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources has recently received 20 floating trash collectors from a private company to be used in estuaries and tributaries in 13 provinces to scoop up trash, especially plastic waste, before it flows into the sea.

Thanks to the Siam Cement Group, the floating trash collectors will be installed in Phetchaburi, Rayong, Samut Songkhram, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phang-nga, Phuket and eight other coastal provinces.

Officials of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources will supervise the operation of the devices in coordination with SCG staff.

Just back from the UK, walked around some nice coastal/inland lake and river areas. Very very minimal rubbish- Why? Seems the UK are tackling this from source IE they try not to hand the stuff out first. Everyone from all walks of life go shopping with their own bags.

Great idea. How about the worlds richest people e.g. bill gates join with govt’s. To design and test ocean going rubbish collecting ships and begin a cleaning program across the worlds oceans.

And brought to you by Siam Cement, manufacturers and retailers of plastic pipe and other plastic construction materials.

In fairness though, blue plastic pipe and fittings are loved by the guys on recycling tricycles. (So much so, that they should never be used as  No Parking poles or land boundary indicators. Almost instant disappearance!)

Very true. As a child growing up in the UK during the sixties there was plenty of litter around, thankfully we didn't have much plastic then. But we didn't really think, you finished with something you dropped it on the pavement or in a hedgerow.
