Five people, dressed in para military uniforms and armed with assault rifles, robbed a gold shop in the downtown Na Thawee district of Thailand’s southern province of Songkhla on Saturday and fled with gold and ornaments worth about 60 million baht.

According to police reports, the five robbers, three men and two women, arrived at the Suchada gold shop in a white van, stolen earlier in the day from a man in neighboring Pattani province.

The five armed criminals walked into the gold shop and subdued the 4-5 female employees at gun point, disabled the CCTV system, scooped all the gold on display into bags and escaped in the waiting van.

Did they first stop a the assault rifle shop to rob that to ????

Drive it like you stole it......

Yeah....she can rob me anytime.

Sounds quite professionally executed, compared to most news reports of similar attempts. And quite a haul at 60M.

Actually one has to admire anyone who does the "Butch Cassidy" method of robbery, as against the disgusting creatures who sit at their computers hacking into people,s bank accounts with no risk or danger !

I am not sure scaring people with guns is an admirable thing. People who carry guns are prepared to use them. Having a gun pointed at you is traumatic.

as we say in US--these people need money for college education.

Obviously someone thought that the shop shouldn't have that much money.

Songkhla gold shop robbed of Bt85m of the precious metal remains closed

A gold shop in Songkhla’s Na Thawee district remained closed Monday after a raid on Saturday by 12 armed robbers. The gang was believed to be made up of southern insurgents seeking money to fund terror attacks.

The Suchada gold shop was almost wiped out as the robbers, who were heavily armed, swept up Bt85 million worth of gold ornaments.

Police suspect that the robbers were Muslim insurgents operating in the three southern border provinces and four districts of Songkhla. The gang stole a van and used it to transport them to the gold shop as well as their getaway vehicle.

Police said one of the robbers was dressed as a woman and asked to be allowed into the shop to buy gold ornaments. Once the shop’s staff pressed a button to unlock the front door, the first robber blocked it from closing while his 11 accomplices rushed inside.

Samak Anuchorn, the owner of the shop, insisted that he would not close down and explained that he needed three or four days to restock. He added that he would also need to wait for police to collect all evidence and interview witnesses.

The shop is located in downtown Tambon Na Thawee of Na Thawee district. Other gold shops nearby continued to trade but have stepped up security measures.

Seems there is no shortness of gold here if he can just re-stock in a few days time.
Guess this will be something that we are going to read much more often in the (near) future.
