Any exercise is good for you. Gym, expensive exercise bike, cheap exercise bike ,walking up the stais instead of the lift. They say motivation gets you started, habit keeps you going. First Big C exercise bike, next the marathon.

They have 3 gyms, you can meet the boss at NONG PRUE gym, and yes aircon is sometimes not cold enough for me (and you it seems) but it is cool enough for 99% Thai, and gyms also have fans.

A fan in a sauna does not change the fact it's still a sauna.  I usually skip cardio and walk back from naklua because I sweat less than doing cardio in that gym.  Since you seem to know the owner tell him to turn up the aircon if he want's to keep this customer.  I see on facebook reviews of his other gym on the dark side people complaining of the same thing.  It's kind of a marketing scam when he advertises aircon but does not turn it up very high.

A-One hotel is a little more expensive but it's nice and cold in there.  Almost too cold when you first go in there.  Since I only pay drop in rates I can easily go there when I don't feel like sweating out half my body weight.

I did not notice before but there are no fans downstairs in the Naklua Fun Gym.  That's probably why it feels hotter down there.  If you know the boss tell him to put some fans down there!

Aircon at 28 is still aircon, and even if I like it cooler, I find stupid to complain when a gym costs 1000 thb month MAXIMUM. I do not know the owner, I just date one of the staff and she told me that the owner doesn't give a f about what people think because they will never find any other gym with aircon for 1000 thb and if they are not happy, they can go pay 2000+ anywhere else, he doesn't need your money. When idiot locals propose a gym without aircon for 1500+, he proposes gyms with aircon for less than 1000 if you pay for more than 1 month, so who is stupid enough to complain ?!

If that's his attitude towards paying customers then sounds like he will suffer the same fate as other business owners who have been in Thailand too long and develop the same sort of attitude.

It doesn't matter to me if I have to pay another 50-100 baht per visit for decent aircon.  A-One hotel is only 8000 per year for ice cold aircon.  Fun Gym is around 5800 now.  Not a big difference over a whole year.

50 baht a day is way over the top ? Guess that says how important a good workout is worth to you .

I didn't say that.  I guess that says how important a good education that teaches reading comprehension skills is.

Information for the "Zoo gym", Pratamnak hill, corner of Soi 5.

Warning: Dual pricing, the different rates are for male/female.

  • 2 weeks later...

I switched from Fun Gym to Universe Gym primarily because of the Air Con issue at Fun Gym.  That easily justifies the few extra baht Universe Gym charges for decent Air Con and lots of fans.  I would go through a large bottle of water at Fun Gym because I was sweating so much.  I only need a small bottle at Universe and usually don't finish it all by the time my workout is done. I also get a much better workout.  I have more energy to do more things, lift more weight, don't have to rest as much between sets etc.

Fun Gym only has 1 of everything, Universe has 2 or 3 of a lot of things.  Some newer some older.  I also like the larger wide open space.  Fun Gym feels claustrophobic.

Universe also has a pool.  It's really small so don't expect to be able to swim laps.  But it's better than nothing.  Universe is also more central and more convenient for me.

Also, for the people claiming they like to sweat their bag off during a workout, Universe has a separate open air area with its own equipment.

The only valid reasons to go to a gym are for the eye candy, and possible hookups.

If the OP is in a condo, he can get just as good cardiovascular exercise by walking/running up and down 30 flights of stairs. Free.

Or buy an exercise mat for his room, about 500 baht, and do 50 - 100 pushups.

Sounds like you have never been to a gym and don't even understand the basic concept.   Like how going up and down stairs doesn't do much for your upper body, just for starters.

Yea, why go to any of thousands of beerbars and gogos in Pattaya, or just smile at girls on the street, when you can go to a gym to try meet women or creep stare, in Thailand.  :cheesy:.

I read the funniest stuff on this board sometimes.

Then put on a silly undersized little singlet and strut home looking like a gorilla carrying two rolls of carpet and piles.

Do not know why so many are complaining about prices. 15 years ago , yes 15 years ago California Wow and True Fitness were around 2300 per month.

Having good equipment , maintaining it in large space and AC is not cheap .

I dont often agree with you but I do now. Prices of aircon are high and even where I live gyms are expensive. I train in a gym now too at times prices are high but that is just how it is.
