Popular Post geronimo
Hi all, I thought I'd share my story with you re my annual visa renewal last year. My retirement visa is always due in June, and I have an agent who does everything, including putting the funds up etc, and have been using him for a decade or more. So, last year I give him all the docs as usual and around the right time I call him and he told me its done, so I went to Changwattana to collect the passport, which I do. A quick look at the visa stamp tells me it says 22 June 2019, so all is well and I return home. Never bother doing the 90 day thing as he clears that for 100 bt, and around December, I had to use my passport for something and when I looked closely at the visa stamp, it was actually 22 June 2018!! I was already 6 months overstay!!!!! I immediately called him and he told me to go to CW the next day, which I did. Upon arrival I was met by his employee who looked at the passport and shook her head. She then went off with it and returned an hour later, telling me to follow her, which I did. By this time I have visions of being carted off to IDC, anyway, I was ushered into a room where this imm officer covered in braid told me to sit down. He asked me why I did not return after the 30 day consideration to receive the other 11 month stamp, to which I replied that I thought the process was done. The imm officer who had signed the stamp had partially written over the 8 of the 2018 and it looked like a 9. Luckily, I speak fluent Thai, and after my explanation he did kind of agree with me that the 8 looked a bit like a 9. Then there was a silence while he pondered this, then he said, "Well, as far as we are concerned, your 12 month visa was approved, only you did not return for the final stamp, and because of that, you are not on overstay" Boy was I relieved!! I paid the 2k for the 90 day fine and was given the remaining 11 month stamp and walked out a free man! 12 1

sweatalot
So agents still work - nothing changed, no need for own money in the bank? And no fear that they might get tough one day? Anyway I would be happy to have somebody who cares for my 90 day reports. Edited September 10, 2019 by sweatalot
mtls2005
I'm amazed there aren't more issues like this. I always get a bit worried when IOs are spinning the date stamp, fat-finger the month and slip the year to the -1, or +1. Always check. I did a transfer of stamps to a new passport recently which involved a total of six (6) new stamps across two full pages, with eleven (11) separate dates, six(6) of which are hand-written, while five (5) are stamped. The hand-written ( 9's ) look like lower-case g's, but for the most part are quite clear.

I personally know a Thai woman who's husband had been doing this for about 9 years. All came unstuck this year and they booted him out saying he had a 9 year overstay! I don't use this guy anymore, but I hear he can only do retirements now and only at Chonburi. I went to Savannaket to get a new non imm mutiple entry this year, 1

When I picked up my passport, I should have gone to get the remaining 11 month stamp, as they only gave 30 days initially, but I thought it was done so went home. Some visas are given a 30 day stamp and you must report to imm to get the remaining stamp.

The 19 Jul 2018 stamp is very clear plus the 21 Jun 2018 date when the stamp was done. 4

geronimo
To clear things, the agent should have told his employee to get the final stamp before giving me the pport, but didn't, so I assumed it was already done. My fault for not seeing the date on the stamp.

I think the new requirements have ended his run.
