Promoting pattaya at home????? Are you <deleted> kidding me, any time the place is mentioned anywhere, people associate you as a sex tourist.  Thailand, Asia, or back home.

promotion among likeminded people is the key.

Somewhere it could be someone with a ''plan B''

when all the actual business will really be at the bottom of the hole

it should be the good time to introduce the ''rescue solution'' of Pattaya as a special zone in Thailand

where Casino are allowed, and the chineses are probably already working hard for that option....

Wait and see

"....despite China’s draconian ..money is illegally fleeing in increasingly innovative ways."

yeah .. Im sure the Chinese government is dreaming of one more big hole in this bucket.

Except that over 60% of Chinese tourists aren't in tour groups now but are free independent travellers.

Do give my regards to 2009 while you're there.

And just like those of tour groups
independent travelers are buying latex pillows on stacks.

Everything is produced in China except latex?

BTW, your post is a good illustration of what I wrote before about the regression of liberality in the West.

Despite the fact of the chinese government is triyng hard to keep feeding the tax system (As every government in the world do) he should probably not be able to stop the ''black money'' flood outside of the country, it was the meaning of the ''chineses'' i was talking about in my post, not the officials but the one with the pockets full of money to ''wash and clean'' , they now buy already a big part of the condominiums in Pattaya (With some thais and indians for the same obvious reasons) but it's not probably enough for them.

What a discrepincy , one man says it's packed with tourists, another says no one is in town.

I think the nobody in town people mean no euro trash drunks like them who just sit in bars day and night.  But who am I to judge.  Oh and there are plenty of those guys around right now so I have no idea what they are talking about.  They probably have been going to the same bar the last 15 years and think just because that bar is dead now that all of Pattaya is dead or something.

And I am writing that the Chinese government will not agree

to Las Vegas in Pattaya..in my opinion .
and these condominiums purchases will end just like previous waves
(westerners wave and russian wave)

I think his OP title should have been...

Yeah what an idiot, should have asked TAT for some real stats.

It's easy to tell the difference. The white ones are polite, spend money and don't smell. Can you guess which ones try to get the 12 men group discount with one freelancer on beach road?

The white ones are polite, spend money and don't smell.....really?

I don't agree with that at all. The worst public disorder offenders generally are white, certainly not polite and very often very smelly. Never had a problem with a non white (and non Thai) person yet. Never had a drunk Chinese or Indian being a loud mouth obnoxious idiot bothering me.

I'm sure they go all in at seafood buffets as is often reported on this forum - but that doesn't affect me. I tend to stay in four star hotels when travelling and the people I meet there, Chinese and Indians are generally very nice and well mannered, and their kids are under control unlike other peoples.

I guess if you spend a lot of time on beach road you will meet people of a similar mind frame and social standing as yourself.

I realise it is the standard operating procedure on this forum to bash all non whites mindlessly so that you fit in with the mob and the crowd will cheer you on, but in this case you are wrong, in my opinion.

Wish I had 1000 Baht for each time I've heard the "Pattaya is dead/finished" meme over the past 32 years. Yet still they build.

I don't care how many condos are built and I don't care if Pattaya is "dead or not dead".

Would posters please reply saying if they care about how busy Pattaya is or not.

How on earth does this matter to anyone other than a business owner?

I don't get how the average tourist or expat cares in the least.

Please explain what I'm missing.

Perhaps you should Google "Sihanoukville Cambodia."

Simple.

Choice and variety will decrease for western tourists and expats, and prices will increase.

The fun is gone out of travelling to and in Thailand. Last time I travelled to an island, Koh Chang, after the ferry landed on the island, it was 15 to 20 westerners and 3 or 4 Thais in a shouting match about the Rip off taxi prices. One thai kept telling "go home! Go home!"

I really wanted to go home.

I've heard that in LKM when a falang was complaining about the drink prices outside a GGB. They also told him 'Go 7/11'.

who'd want to go there anyway, except for fat men who couldn't get laid anywhere else! thirty years ago it was okish , ten years ago it was a <deleted>hole and the last time I was there at a language school I swore I'd never go back and have kept my promise!

You are overlooking the fact that there are 'fat men who couldn't get laid anywhere else' all over the world and many of them come to Pattaya.

Fat men like a bit of affection just like anyone else as do the disabled and elderly men you see in Pattaya.

Is it a problem for you, if so why?

Can confirm.  I was at some bar somewhere and it wasn't busy.  So therefore all of Pattaya is totally dead and doomed forever.

do you talk to any bar managers, mamassan or even 'longterm' bar ladies..?? they will all confirm for you---that pattaya is very quiet at present...the patrons spend a lot less than prveiously..

i personally see in the popular  bars--very few customers, even on a saturday night..

So just like they have been doing the last 20 years then.  There will never be enough customers who never spend enough money and they will always complain about it.

I really doubt anything of what you mentioned will happen. You are just a whiner. Even during bad times earlier they kept opening new bar beers and restaurants. That in my opinion was a big mistake, and because of the size of those big bar beers they look really deserted when maybe 5 out 15 bars have customers. The rest got like 5-7 bargirls and no customers. On the north part of Soi Boakaw there are new bars opening every 3 months.

It's like "you build it and they will come."

‘Genuine’ tourists will have no issue whatsoever

My pal is a genuine tourist who certainly had an 'issue'. He's a retired plumber who visits Pattaya 3 or 4 times a year for 4 week visits yet he got 'weeded out' and accused of working at BKK airport immigration recently.

They let him in after a 40 minute interrogation but it left him with a nasty taste in his mouth and is an indication of which way the wind seems to be blowing.

Guys have had 2 pms from board members.....I wont quote them directly because they were perfectly polite but they simply cannot grasp how their own foreign exchange is calaculated

I'll do it here because its clear there are many others and I'll make it simple......this applies to everyone except holders of US Dollars and I will come back to that.

Firstly there is no little Thai man in Government deciding today we'll give 37 to Brits 33 to Eurozone 21 to Aussies etc etc (add your own currency)

Its calculated by the sum of two ratios.......now 1 of those ratios (relevant to Thailand) is Dollar/Baht.....its in absolutely every calculation for every currency conversion thats relevant to us (here)

The 2nd ratio is our own currencies ratio against the US Dollar so for Brits Sterling/Dollar.....its that simple

Sterling/Dollar x Dollar/Baht equals Interbank.....

So for Euro zone countries substitute Euro for Sterling in the calculation

So Euro/Dollar x Dollar/Baht equals interbank......and so on. Its that simple.

Dollar/Baht is in every calculation that is relevant to Thailand just remember that

Only the USD has a direct exchange rate with the Thai baht which is why as the "reserve currency" its included in every calculation

Forget baskets of currencies and anything else. Other than holders of American Dollars you need to know just the 2 ratios and thats it simple as that

Not sure if you've ever been to Pattaya, but over the years I've noticed  there's no shortage of loud, obnoxious Europeans cadging beers and down wind from whom you would not want to be. Have to admit it's been years since I've been in touristy areas, but judging from frequent posts on TV about their antics I would assume that hasn't changed much.
