"Pretty Lanlabelle": Autopsy shows alcohol killed her

Thai caption: Death from alcoholic poisoning

Police in Bangkok have said that alcoholic poisoning killed a 25 year old "pretty" who died after serving drinks at a party.

Thitima Naraphanphiphat or Lanlabelle was found dead on the sofa in the lobby of a condominium building in Bang Khun Thian last week.

She had been carried into the building and later to the sofa by a man called "Nam Un". She appeared unconscious but he denied killing her.

In a case that has captivated Thailand further details have now been revealed but police have not ruled out the possibility of arrest warrants.

Lanlabelle had 400 mg of alcohol in her system - a level that can cause death and which is eight times higher than the drink driving limit in Thailand.

Pol Maj-Gen Somrit Tongtao of the Region 8 metropolitan police told the media that the autopsy showed no fluid from another person in the body of the deceased, no sign of assault and no drugs.

Further tests were ongoing, however, to see if a date rape substance might have been administered.

Five people are helping police with their inquiries and the exact circumstances at the drinks party in Bang Bua Thong - on the other side of the city from where she was found dead - are still under investigation.

Pressed about the possibility of charges in connection with causing death by negligence, molestation and abduction the Maj-Gen was noncommittal intimating that all would be revealed in the next 24 hours or so.

Examination of a Samsung smart watch worn by the victim is ongoing.

If arrest warrants are issued they are expected by tomorrow, he said.

Isn't it millilitres instead of milligrams? 400 mg sounds a bit low to be fatal.

Must be a mistake. 400 mg would they weight of a view grains of salt. 400ml would be nearly half a liter of pure alcohol but I don't think they can accurately measure the total amount of blood she has. So how would they know that? Maybe it is mg per a certain unit of blood?

Yep, 400ml would be about 60g per liter of blood so it isn't that either.

Another case where Thai police strongly ignores the main suspect

He's not laotian or burmese, do you pretend corrupted police officer give bad reputation to the Land of Smiles?

Patong Police Traffic Chief, Ekkarat Plaidoung answers: In Thailand, the standard Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit is set at 0.05 per cent, which means you are legal if there is no more than 50 mg/dl of blood, which can be tested through both blood or breathalizer test. In normal circumstances, 50 mg/dl means about two glasses of beer, so in general, you should try not to go above this.

That is 0.05% alcohol. In USA it is 0.08 as is UK, the highest limit in Europe. But is it not strange to quote 50mg (weight) per dl (volume) of blood.

Also intruiging to see that in the table below the countries where 0% is allowed are some of those who make the best beer ie Czech Republic.

Level is 0.08% in England and Wales.

In Scotland it is 0.05%.

Sorry, we are so obviously NOT a UNITED Kingdom. Drop it in E & W to same as S would be a great idea.

What is it in NI I wonder?

Just more BS, maybe Nam Un is well connected, or Daddy is a senior cop/ official, or a large envelope has been handed over.

Alcohol did not kill her, it was what was in it, which is clearly being with held in the report.

What do you know about this case that no one else (apart from a few Thaivisa bashers) knows?

What do you know about it that no one else does?

These people usually take coke, or/and speed and it's not a secret.

Or ecstasy. And a certain amount of drugs and alcohol is deadly.

And the evidence of cocaine, speed and ecstacy in this case is what?  Where was it reported?

"...a certain amount of drugs and alcohol is deadly".

So is a 400mg/100ml alcohol level on it's own.

"These people…"

These people?  What do you mean by these people?  What sort of person was she that you know about?

Sorry Colinneil and notasmartassknowitallfarag but alcohol alone can kill especially if small, thin person and a lot of drinks in a short time. I have had a number of friends die that way over the years including a co-worker only 57 yo who died last year. Not saying there wasn't something else also in the alcohol ( date rape drug) but the alcohol alone if ingested in a short time can definately kill you. Check links below. It's not the total amount of alcohol but how much in a short time that the body cannot metabolise. Say 15 shots in an 1 half hour might kill you , in 5 hrs just make you tipsy.

My boss in Glasgow died that very way.

Every evening it was down to the BBC club after work to drink herself unconscious.

She was about 45 when they found her dead at her desk the next morning.

Shame, she was a nice lady.

Very common in Scotland.

Plus perhaps a pillow over her head? Who would trust the forensic here? Innit?

...well IMHO..you are getting close to the probable cause of death; a combination of an excessive amount of alcohol (2 bottles of Whisky was stated by her when she rang her friend to come get her). With such a petite person and a woman, she would have had a lower tolerance to strong alcohol than a larger person; meaning as a smaller person she would have less volume of blood and the absorption of alcohol would calculate at a much higher reading, which can only accurately be achieved by blood analysis. The fact too that she is female indicates she has a lower tolerance to alcohol.

It is highly unlikely a small woman could just drink and drink over a few hours to such an extent to record such a high reading. Her blood alcohol level would increase for at least two hours after she stopped drinking and would only leave her body at the rate of .01% per hour. (There is no mention of times and when the blood was taken and when the specimen was analyzed; (all important factors to be considered by the Coroner).

I suggest she was 'force fed' a lot of the alcohol, which quickly pushed her well over .150% and into a dangerous zone where she was incapable of looking after herself. It then appears he was taken from the venue by this person called a man who failed to render any assistance but had other motives.

From CCTV footage you can clearly see her slumped comatose state, totally incoherent and oblivious to what was happening to herself. She has no control over her face, neck or upper body and her chin was slumped onto her chest most of the time which was restricting her airway dramatically.

A few minutes like this and it could well be fatal.

RIP little one, your friends and associates should have been more responsible.

No one cares about her and most on here don’t seem to blame the guy dragging her to his place when she is obviously in a serious state. Normal people would get her to the nearest hospital. This guy drags her back to his place films her??? The drags her down to the foyer looking around to make sure he hasn’t left anything etc. says a lot about some TV posters

Never said that the guy wasn't resposible and that she drank herself to death, he may well have kept plying her with drinks so that her inhibitions would be lowered or that she would pass out so that he could film her or have sex with her. lot of college  kids in US have died from binge drinking at parties when the other particpants thought that they were just drunk and let them sleep. Guy might have thought she was not in any danger but didn't want a passed out girl in his room who might wake up and cry rape later. A lot of people have said when they have seen someone passed out "their just drunk, let them sleep it off" not a safe thing to do.
