Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will be held accountable for violating the Constitution if he does not support efforts bid by both government and opposition parties to amend the charter. This is because amending the charter is incorporated in the government’s 12 urgent policy issues, which he has already presented to parliament, said Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, chief strategist of the opposition Pheu Thai party, today.

Khunying Sudarat’s comment was in response to the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday that the government will not take the lead in amending the charter and prefers to leave it to those seeking the amendments. He also said that amending the charter should start by reading Section 256 (which addresses charter amendments).

The Prime Minister also doubted the amendments will have the support of the majority of the people. The Pheu Thai chief strategist said “The prime minister must ask himself why it was in the government’s 12 urgent policy issues in the first place if he does not intend to amend the charter,” adding that the House has already set up a joint committee to consider the amendments.

he did sh.t on 2007 military constitution, by staging coup, because it was not draconian enough.

he did sh.t on constitution, which he forced on country in 2017, countless times.

the only way out of this vicious circle is getting back to 1997 constitution by referendum, without any amendments. That was the last legal constitution.

in referendum should be only 2 choices:

do you want 1997 one

or

do you want 2017 one

You mean like Brits - do you want to stay in EU or do you want to leave EU? That went well...

referendums are done on important, fundamental matters in as simple as possible terms.

2 questions are sufficient here and were sufficient with brexit.

"...Prime Minister’s statement yesterday that the government will not take the lead in amending the charter and prefers to leave it to those seeking the amendments."

Does that mean he will listen to amendments suggested by 'those seeking the amendments'?

Becoming more tricky by the day...

I've only read the headline and the first few lines of the article - and I literally laughed out loud.

As if the junta forces care one whit about some meaningless document called 'the Constitution' (even if it is their own) or any 'demands' from the 'Opposition'.

The militarist forces (with powerful backing) can do whatever they want - and they do so on a daily, hourly, minute-by-minute basis.
