Thailand’s industry minister confirms no review of glyphosate ban

 

 

Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit announced today (Monday) that his ministry is fully committed to the decision of the National Hazardous Substances Committee to ban paraquat, glyphosate and chlorpyrifos.

 

He said that the decision of the NHSC on October 22nd would remain unchanged and there would be no review of the status of any of the three substances as speculated.

 

“My standpoint is firm and remains unchanged.  If you take a look back of my previous statements, I have never said, once, that we would not ban (the substances).  However, there were voices echoing from the farmers who are affected (by the ban) and, as a minister, I am concerned with all groups of people,” said Mr. Suriya.

Great, i hope he does this for the benefit of all (except those who love to poison everyone). Slowly but surely Thailand is doing some things for the environment. Lets hope they do more.

Once again, congratulations to Thailand for standing to the governments of the west and the corporations that have bought them.

 

I wish the spineless government of my home country (UK) could show the same amount of courage and integrity in the face of corporate lobbying, threats of funding withdrawl and legal action enacted by teams of morally bereft corporate lawyers.

Good news for healthy food... farmers will have to adjust their methods to meet new health demands..

It's time the farmers realised you can't keep poisoning customers food just because of the difficulty in finding a cost effective alternative.

There has to be more to it than this. It's great, but my inner self is telling me there is money being made from this somehow.

 

How else can you explain a Thai politician sticking to their guns with no apparent upside for them. Highly suspect. ????

Stop Monsanto: Join the first massive US research project studying glyphosate's health effects on humans.

Glyphosate – the main ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide – is a particularly toxic substance that causes a range of health problems in humans, including cancer, autism, birth defects and at least a dozen other serious illnesses.

Roundup has been around since 1974, but sales began to skyrocket after Monsanto developed its Roundup-resistant GMO technology in the 1990s.

Since then, America and much of the rest of the planet has been deluged with millions of tons of glyphosate – the most heavily-used agricultural chemical in the history of the world – and 25 percent of it gets dumped on the United States, even though we account for only 5 percent of the world's population

 

Glyphosate: a 'wrecking ball' to the human body
Dr. Stephanie Seneff, an MIT senior research scientist and environmental toxins expert, is known for having documented the link between glyphosate and autism. She also believes that glyphosate is responsible for many other chronic diseases whose rates have soared in recent years, since the introduction of glyphosate. Dr. Seneff labels glyphosate as "the most significant chemical used today," and one that has the effect of a "wrecking ball" on the human body.

"Glyphosate is what Dr. Seneff calls a 'monster molecule,' and affects human biology in many ways. ...

"Dr. Seneff believes that glyphosate exposure is catapulting gluten sensitivity into epidemic proportions."

Aside from its effects on the gut, glyphosate has been linked to liver, kidney, pancreatic, thyroid and colon cancer – as well as ADHD, Alzheimer's, birth defects, brain cancer, breast cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and more.

Meanwhile, the EPA – another agency bribed into doing Monsanto's bidding – continues to quietly raise the acceptable levels of glyphosate in our food supply. Fifty times the amount of glyphosate is now allowed on corn than was permitted in 1996, for example, and the total allowed amount has increased by a factor of 17.
