Thailand doesn't want foreigners here who CAN'T afford to live here! It's not rocket science!

Yes and no. If what you wrote was true, the big problem with the current solution is that it's been poorly thought through.

I've always kept over 4 mill. in Thailand so I can afford to pay my hospital bills. But just because I have money in the bank doesn't mean I'm prepared to spend it on things like government specified insurance policies, to be honest, it's likely to have the opposite effect.

Of course it's been poorly thought through, like so many things here. But it is what it is. Even for their own people they do nothing, unless you work for the govt or bureaucracy. I don't know if you are married or not, if so, ask your wife what the govt does for her or her family!

If you have 3 million put aside, that is good, and what happens if you use it up? do you have another 3 million to top it up?

And in your case, would having to pay 20 000 per year for low cover insurance hurt you all that much if you had 3 million stashed away?

What happens when the 3 million runs out?

Exactly the same thing that happens when the 400k coverage runs out.

It's just that 3 million lasts longer.

PS: premiums for very advanced ages (95) get close to 200K for 400K coverage. (If I remember right). Less advanced age like 80 probably 100K.

Not sure where the 20K came from.
