Tourism Thailand Tourism: Falling Behind or Ready to Evolve?
Perhaps Thailand hasn't realised other countries are attractive as tourists search for something "new". Businesses think they can increase profits indefinitely. But national economies can only do this by switching to a variety of new industries that meet new demand so that overall they can keep growing. Thailand has got stuck on the idea that there is only one industry that can grow indefinitely - tourism. It appears they aren't interested in developing people to enter new industries. -

Accident Navy Lieutenant Crashes into Teen, Tells Family to Use 30-Baht Health Scheme for Injuries
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A Thai Navy officer holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander is facing public outrage after allegedly causing a severe road crash involving a 15-year-old boy and refusing to take financial responsibility for the victim’s critical medical treatment. According to Mr Noy 51, who spoke to the media on 20 July, on behalf of his injured son, the crash occurred at around 23:00 on 9 July on Itsaraphap Road in Bangkok. His son, identified only as Mr Nai, was riding a motorcycle home after buying Pad Thai when he was struck by a pickup truck emerging from a nearby military compound. The impact of the collision rendered the teenager unconscious and left him with life-threatening injuries, including a fractured leg, ruptured kidney and spleen and intestinal perforations. He is currently being treated at Phra Pinklao Hospital. Police at Bangkok Noi Police Station confirmed that the pickup truck was at fault, as the boy had been riding in the main traffic lane. Despite this, the vehicle’s compulsory third-party insurance (Por Ror Bor) had expired, rendering the driver’s first-class insurance policy void in terms of liability coverage. Mr Noy expressed deep concern over the apparent lack of accountability from the military officer involved. “The officer visited my son five days ago and simply brought a gift basket,” Mr Noy said. “When I asked about medical expenses, he told me to use the 30-baht universal healthcare scheme. I see no sincerity in his offer to help.” The family fears the case may quietly disappear due to the officer’s military status. Mr Noy said he was speaking out to demand justice and ensure his son receives the compensation and care he deserves. Police have advised the family to wait until the teenager recovers before pursuing further legal action. Adapted by Asean Now from Khoasod 2025-07-22 -

Middle East 67 Killed Near UN Aid Convoy in Gaza; Israel Denies Full Toll
RUSSELS (Reuters) -Belgium's King Philippe described abuses in Gaza as a "disgrace to humanity" in a speech on the eve of Monday's national day, unusually direct remarks on international affairs from a monarch who traditionally avoids public politics. "I add my voice to all those who denounce the serious humanitarian abuses in Gaza, where innocent people are dying of hunger and being killed by bombs while trapped in their enclaves," he said speaking at his palace in Brussels. "The current situation has gone on for far too long. It is a disgrace to all of humanity. We support the call by the United Nations Secretary-General to immediately end this unbearable crisis."
