Thailand Will Soon Allow Its Citizens To Grow Cannabis At Home To Sell To The Government.

Thailand is ramping up medical marijuana legalization efforts that will soon allow all Thais to cultivate six cannabis plants in their homes and sell their home-grown harvest to the government, to turn into medical marijuana.

 

“We are in the process of changing laws to allow the medical use of marijuana freely,” said recently-appointed Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in Bangkok on Wednesday. “We have high confidence that marijuana will be among the major agricultural products for Thai households. We are speeding up the law changes. But there is a process to it.”

 

Back in September, Anutin alluded, “In the near future, families will be able to plant cannabis trees in their back gardens like any other herb.”

Isn't it contradictory to say that Thailand is the first Southeast Asian country to legalize medical marijuana and then say they are seeking to become a bigger player in Asia's expanding cannabis market? Aren't they the only player in this market?

They know full well that this will lead to legalizing recreational use.  Just like it has in other countries.  That's basically the idea.

Got your seeds ready?I've been thinking about ordering some seeds but I might hold out 'til the new law gets passed then again I might not.

So what does one do with the flower that fails to qualify for medical use?I guess one would have to burn the flower to destroy it,which could take some time as I would be burning it in a bong!

As for the nutrients and lighting equipment I think nature should provide me with ample supplies of both!

Same here in fact my wife seems to be related to just about everybody we see around here and all those hundred baht hand outs to family members in the past may come in handy as favours to be repaid Just like in the God Father.

So how can the government control what the growers will spray on the plants? Medical marihuana should be organic grown me thinks...and how can they control if the growers sell all to the government and not to tourists or so?

So everybody can grow marihuana and will sell it to who pays the most....some idiots will grow male plants and ruin the crops of their neighbourhoods...others will spray dangerous chemicals on it....

 

It's illegal for kids to see people smoking cigarettes on tv but it's okay to see marihuana in every front garden? 

 

It started by importing medical marihuana from abroad but now it's free for all, just do as you please...oh well...the traffic won't get any safer from this. Think i'll buy me a big solid Benz soon.

There is already marijuana growing everywhere around you and you just don't see it. I would be more concerned about drunk drivers but hey it's fine for children to see people drink.

I'm sure the government will do rigorous testing for chemicals.The plant itself is very hardy and has been used to protect gardens from pests.I agree there's no need to spraying the plant with chemicals.Some of the modern strains are susceptible to mould due to their denseness but spraying won't help there.The government won't be able to cost effectively control the market in my opinion plus it may have the added effect of destroying the Ya Ba market and it associated problems as the Thais may actually become a bigger market than people realise as I have in the past enjoyed a few bongs with the locals and know first hand Thais enjoy weed as much as anybody.It may also help with excessive alcohol consumption as when ever I've tried to mix smoking pot after a few bevies I get sick and throw up.

Is there not one single person in this country that questions why is the government getting involved in business activities that should be left to the business community.

In the end, the ultimate question is if us farangs will be able to legally smoke some weed soon...

 

Legally, highly unlikely, perhaps not even medically, but the availability will most likely increase and in distant future recreational use may become decriminalized for locals and/or in certain tourist areas/licensed bars.

 

Who knows, it may even become completely legalized, especially if the world's view of cannabis progresses in this direction and if it increases tourism rates, as the gov't most likely have realized counting off the "lower-income" but reliable western tourists was a greater mistake than they'll admit publicly.

 

Another question is, who qualifies for medical marijuana? Why allow 6 plants per households + farms if it were only restricted to a very limited number of diagnosis?

i thought the government was mostly interested in high-cbd levels in the plants, while the recreational user is interested in high thc varieties. That does not fit.
