Update. Just got back from a couple of days in Chantaburi. After asking a travel agent friend we found a minibus service to Chantaburi which leaves on the road running down the side of Numchai electrical shop near Soi 49 off Sukhumvit Road. Minibusses get a bad rap; deservedly so; but this was a good experience. Good driving there and back, all passengers instructed to wear seatbelts and the journey took just under 3 hours. 60 Baht for baht bus to hotel.
