Thai garlic farmers suffer as cheaper Chinese bulbs flood the market

More than 25,000 Thai farmers who grow garlic are facing steep competition from China, whose garlic is considerably cheaper due to lower production costs, the director of the Centre for International Trade Studies (CITS), University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Dr Aat Pisanwanich said on Monday (December 16).

Taiwanese arrested for smuggling 95 Indian star tortoises

Ston Kong-Ngern, chief of the wildlife checkpoint at Don Mueang airport revealed today (December 17) that shortly after 1am this morning, airport police and customs officers discovered 95 Indian star tortoises in luggage belonging to Lai Tsung-Yun, 38, and Lu Chiao 37 as it passed through the X-ray scanner.

Tax on EV batteries to be introduced

The Excise Department is preparing to propose the establishment of a fund to support and develop electric vehicles (EV), and says that a tax on the EV battery will be collected to cover the costs of managing and monitoring its recycling and treatment, its director general Patchara Anuntasilpa, announced this week.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australian police have arrested two men for allegedly smuggling 645 kilogrammes (1,422 pounds) of ecstasy hidden inside hundreds of aluminium barbecues, the culmination of a six-month investigation spanning three countries.

PHUKET:-- More than 60,000 workers from Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos have been legally registered in Phuket, but a further 50,000 are still waiting for their renewal applications to be processed, Phuket Governor Phakaphong Tavipatana has revealed.
