Buriram: Savage dog attack leaves three year old girl dead

A grandfather described the terrifying moment when he found his three year old granddaughter in the jaws of a savage dog in the village. 

 

He wrenched little Tenggwa from the mouth of the female dog and rushed her to hospital. 

 

But it was too late - she had been severely bitten in her neck and head.

 

Now villagers and police in the hamlet in Khok Khamin sub-district of Plap Plachai district have sealed off the area to try and capture the four year old dog who is called "Nang Jingjork".

 

Maa jingjork is the Thai word for a fox, but the dog responsible for the attack is a mixed Bang Kaew, a Thai breed. 

 

The alleged owner of the dog has refused to accept responsibility and has claimed it is a stray. 

 

A tearful Phinit, 50, told Daily News that he and his wife cared for their granddaughter after her parents split up and her mother went to work in Bangkok. 

 

The three year old was tagging along behind her grandmother as she went to get water for some buffaloes in a field. 

 

But Tenggwa - displaying the innocence and characteristics of a small child - wandered off. The grandmother called Phinit to go looking for her. 

 

He got on his motorcycle and drove around the village only to see in horror that the dog was tossing his granddaughter from side to side like a ragdoll.

 

It had the little girl's neck and head in its mouth. 

 

He said he rushed her to hospital but it was too late. He reported the matter to Plap Plachai police and together with villagers they went looking for the dog. 

 

He said that the owner of the dog denied any responsibility saying that the dog was not theirs.

Heart breaking. Too little, too late but the dog needs to be found and destroyed.

We usually have about 2-3 dogs that are not ours. But we have had some bad ones that received village justice.

The two living here are assumed to be ours though, Mother in law brought them here as pups. I have nothing to do with them other than scratch their heads, as a good person does.

Tragic incident, my sincere condolences to the family.
I hope there is a proper investigation into the ownership of the dog. Sounds like the gentleman in the spotlight is mounting a Thai defence ( running away from responsibility and hiding ).
The family deserve and need closure.

The dogs on the street are a huge problem I can't remember how many times a dog or dogs have chased me on my motorbike something needs to be done and I don't mean just desex the ones already there and stop the do-gooders feeding them I know they think they are doing a good service but they are not they just incoarage the dogs to roam in packs soi dogs are wild animals don't be confused with the wagging tails they are killers that need to be culled ,don't get me wrong I love dogs and have 5 myself but couldn't let one outside my walled property as the soi dogs would kill them for sure until someone tells me how to remedy this situation this seems to be the only wayc

Heartbreaking! It´s time something gets done about the dog problems in Thailand. There are only 3 things to do:

 

• Demand, backed by law, that owner take care of their dogs and keep them controlled inside their fences.
• Apply tax and insurance on all dog owner, which will take away the ones that do not care and make the ones that pay care more.
• Consider all dogs that does not apply to point 1 and 2 as stray, and put them out of their misery.

 

(To all dog lovers, do not bother. I am the owner of 2 dogs that I love and care for.)

Send in the men with blowpipes like they do on my local golf course sometimes. Any dog not on a lead without a collar is poison darted. I'd like to see the authorities declare open season on the stray dogs here, also any with owners but not restrained. Maybe start putting them on the menu at local cafes. That Bang Kaew is a particularly nasty breed and one guaranteed to give me problems when walking or riding my bike. Hate the nasty little goits. Another thing that gets me in my small community is why do people think it compulsory to keep more than one dog. The house next door (Thai) has nine of the noisy beggars. Another (farang) has six and never corrals them. RIP this poor baby girl, hope the mutt responsible is quickly despatched.

I have one , sure she can be stuck up, but, loyal and a great snake attacker. She watches over my daughter and wife (wife hates her and they run round the cars my wife chasing her) But the dog is never far from them looking out) She is also loyal protector of the neighbors gardens (her area) and will always join the kids playing. The have small mouths but, very sharp teeth. Lives in the garden, Barks at strangers, moves on soi dogs, who run past her area, except lead dog who visits once a day, they greet each other and moves on. Ah, I've been getting it wrong all these years. The neighbours dogs that are alway sh!##ing and barking in my back garden are just loyaly protecting it.

This is a very sad story. I feel for the girls family. Here in Bangkok something on my mind as of late is that dogs seem to be getting larger and look like mixed breed pits. Wild dogs like this, becoming territorial, and essentially all wild, is going to make stories like this more common. Anyone else notice this phenomenon or is it my imagination?

Got my dog killed by a neighbors dog on my land. Police said just let it go.. Owner said its the other neighbors dog which is rubbish. Just absolutely moronic. So dam ignorant and this is why im not fond of thailand anymore. Its the people!

Perhaps if Thais took took more responsibility for the stray dog population, like not dumping unwanted puppies and sterilizing dogs, incidents like this would not occur. Don't blame the dogs - blame the attitude of Thai people.

Unfortunately.. this was a tragedy waiting to happen.The majority of people let their untrained dogs roam loose,

and so unfortunately its a recipe for disaster...

This will continue ,because attitudes will never change here.. 

I live in a gated community, but... it makes no difference.... 'Owners' turf their dogs out early morning, and they dont care,that people are scared of these dogs, roaming sois unsupervised...

People who feed soi dogs, make the situation much worse, as these dogs sleep outside their property, IF they care for these dogs, at least feed them inside their gated property..and keep them there..
