Tolkien and j.k Rowling would have trouble dreaming up such tales on a daily basis !! Deluded people counting every person using Bkk as a transition to get on their next plane by walking through the airport to next check in !

Chinese tours do not go to drink in bars, Indians not many. What Chinese love is gambling. There are boder casinos, also many venues that are underground. I have heard many Thai getting into big financial problems at these venues lately. My friend who has a bar in Koh Samui is going to close it after 15 years ,he says never been so dead there. Others I know In Hua Hin are shutting down as well. Pattaya and Phuket numbers are down 30% +. people are saying it is dead. If the Chinese Indian numbers are up it will not help LOS, it will only help Chinese Thai venues. It will help border casinos and underground venues line their pockets. When I came through Suvanrapom a few weeks back their were thousands of Chinese, all screaming and marching ,holding flags--- so the numbers may be real and the government dos not give a toss about bars closing down and expats leaving. Those in border areas have trade passes for daily crossings. No mention of fiddled figures there of course. Market traders get marked down as entries anyway. Most Chinese by the way means more than 700m. Only 130m hold passports/trade passes. Chinese tourists by destination: The top 10 destinations for Chinese tourists Hong Kong Macau Taiwan Thailand Japan Vietnam South Korea Singapore USA Italy You can write off the first three as domestic tourism. 1. Hong Kong For go money out China 2. Macau For lost money to Casino 3. Taiwan For business with families 4. Thailand For take mistake fly, everyone will go Vietnam

Pattaya is 40% down, Phuket and Chiang Mai 30-35% down, so obviously not there. With the all powerful super TM30 they must be able to tell us where are the new tourist hot spots. Koh Samui is also down, which means that all the main Resort destinations are down. Is TAT stacking them all up at the Airport?

Popular Post Kaoboi Bebobp
I flew into Bangkok from Saigon earlier this week. There were dozens of empty seats on the Vietnam Airlines noon hour flight. Near the end of the flight, I stood up and tried to count the empties. More than 50 empties on a 195-seat Airbus 321. I did this route quite often the last seven years and have never seen a Vietnam to Thailand flight with so few occupied seats. Whereas my BKK-to-SGN flight was full. Dream on, TAT. Popular Post thesetat2013
All your replies seem correct. These numbers seem to be a load of B. S. But what really gets me is how they managed to choose who exactly was the 39 millionth passenger to arrive? With multiple planes always arriving and multiple immigration booths managing visas for entry. This seems impossible to be accurate. What probably happened was they chose an Indian because they are trying to promote Thailand more to the Indians because their tourists spend alot. 4

ravip
This has to be a huge disastrous hit on some of the famous top experts in Thai affairs. Gotta brace oneself for a monstrous backlash, which we could safely predict would extend to more than a couple of thousand posts/pages here on TVF which might go on for months!

The majority of members here are expats and not tourists. They equate tourist activities to their own. Next week, I will have 6 adults and 2 kids from a neighbouring Asean country visiting and staying over the New Year. They will be staying in a private villa. They will not be making a single visit to any bars even though most of them drink. Instead they will be chilling at home drinking G&T’s, whiskey, wine and Prosecco at various times of the day. They will be pumping a fair amount of money into the economy but they are sadly not westerners. I’m sure there are thousands of such tourists. It’s just that they are not visible to the typical poster on TVF. 1

Where are all the tourists, everyone hotel is complaining, bars are empty, please explain, but the figures don't lie.
