looking for doctor in chiang mai

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a good doctor here in chiang mai that speaks  english?

I have seen good recommendations for Dr Morgan at Hang Dong if you want a gp, or a couple of gp clinics recommended in/near Loi Kroh.

Personally I would go to A & E, describe my ailment, see a specialist (rather then GP), usually quickly, and part with only about 400baht- even at Ram etc.

If medication is prescribed, ask doctor if you can have a prescription (if necessary) to buy at pharmacy outside. Huge cost saving in % terms usually. Fauscino near Arcade Bus station and Pharma choice opposite McCormick hospital have a good range at good prices and english speaking competent pharmacists.

Good luck

A & E

Thanks I'll look him up. What's A&E stand for?

Dr Morgan at Health Care Medical Centre has been my Dr almost since the day the clinic opened which must be 10 yrs +.Her English is excellent and you receive very professional care.

Qualified nursing staff, always in attendance, also speak English. If Dr Morgan considers you need further specialist advice about a particular issue she will refer you to those she considers appropriate.

Appointment needs to be made. Web site and other details you can Google.Location about 500 m south of Tesco on Hang Dong Rd opp Geriatric Hospital

Accident and Emergency- its the standard entry point for any illness etc at hospitals here

No, it is not. It is meant for emergencies. Misusing it for non-emergencies among other things prevents you from choosing your doctor which ypu definitely should do.

OP: Dr. Morgan as already mentioned is a good choice if you do not need a Specialist.  If you do need a specialist (and medical care in Thailand is much more specialuzed rhan you may be used to) then please specify what type of problem.

Moved to Health Forum.

You are right as usual Sheryl.  I was thinking specifically of my nearest hospital Rajavej, where the entrance to A & E pretty much doubles as the entrance to first visit enquiries etc.  Ram for example is different as A & E is at the side but one would soon be redirected to the apropriate desks.

I should have said, more accurately, go to hospital main entrance......

My point was really that I find the ability to access a specialist quickly and cheaply is a real plus here for me compared with the UK GP experience where you need to be sick by appointment (a week later), then watch the DR look at their watch as you aproach them, so they dont over run their alloted 7 minutes-which is so often inadequate. A very high pressure job exacerbated by many GP's leaving/retiring early, but I digress.....

Finally, very many thanks to you for last year, when I was desperately in need of help here for surgery etc, and your extensive timely advice got me fixed

If anyone cares about Poster of the Year, personally I believe that you and Ubon Joe should be joint winners for the clear advice and sanity you bring to these forums.
