Pattaya: Drought crisis as reservoir runs dry - but lots of fish for dinner!

77kaoded said that residents in Bang Lamung were facing hardship after they visited a reservoir called Sak Nork and found it had virtually run out of water. 

 

They called it a crisis in their headline after visiting on New Year's Day. One local said he had never seen it as bad as this. 

 

There was, however, good news for lovers of fish.

 

They reported that the locals had been arriving with nets to easily land fish for dinner.

No, but Songkran won't be long in arriving. Start getting the pumps ready to collect all the wasted water and get it back to the reservoir.

Nobody will care. I remember when years ago the streets were full of water delivering trucks here in Pattaya. We had a severe drought. Songkran was like every year. Of course the people were reminded to save water...

There is a record 39 million visitors to Thailand, but as the Chinese and Indians keep coming, not all of them will get running water out of tap, or be able to flush a toilet.

 

More tourists, without more infrastructure.  Yes, rocket science.

Indians don't bathe and the Chinese do their business in the street so I really don't see any issues here...

i just do not  believe that Pattaya being so overdeveloped will not have massive water supply issues not to mention sewer and waste water issues going forward.  Seems extra risky to buy a place, more so than ever

Don't worry, it will end up back there anyway - eventually, just via a  circumsticious route, if not it will be in the environment, not wasted as people will have Fun ????

I can only imagine where they will source the water from, let alone the quality of it.

You have to pay to have water delivered. Always been that way.

 

Did anyone expect anything different when they keep building hotels and condos, without bring more water to supply the city? Water trucks were the norm in the mid 90s.

Does the water magically appear in the tank of the truck?

 

They have to get it from somewhere, and when that somewhere runs dry, where's the next somewhere?  Not to mention, watch the prices sky rocket.

Flowerland is still doing a lot of watering from their diesel pumping station opposite happy days bar and the 6 acres of papaya plants out the back, 6klm hosepipe running up and down the lines of plants  I hear the director of water services is on holiday in the Bahamas as we speak????
