Hello,

I have been staying in an apartment in Phuket for a month, and was supposed to leave the country for a few days then come back before flying home to USA. However my friend got sick and i had to stay with him, so i needed to extend my visa last minute.

After going  to immigration i was told i was missing the 1. Copy of Owner ID card, 2. copy registration for house, and 3. Copy contract for rent.

I was able to get the rental agreement from the lady who works for building, however the owner is not from around here and wont be able to get me anything directly.

Immigration wont process an extension to my visa without those documents, no matter what, and i’ve now been sent back 2 times.

i am supposed to fly home in less than 5 days, and i cant seem to get the documents they want, and i dont want any strikes on my name so i can come back in the future. Does anyone have any advice on what i can do? Greatly appreciated!

You could try to get 7 days to leave the country by applying for an extension and paying 1900 baht. Explain to immigration your problem and tell them you only need 7 days to avoid a overstay.

Immigration probably want to see that a TM30 has been filed of you staying at the rental condo.

Some IOs require that a TM30 has been filed, for a service that needs your address (like an extension of stay).

You write that you have a copy of the rental contract.

Good!  Because that allows you to register on the IO TM30 website as the tenant of the place you are staying and that will enable you to file the required TM30 yourself.

For registering on the website as tenant you only need a scan of the rental contract and a scan of your Passport-ID page.  If you happen to have a scan of the house-book you can add that too (but not strictly required).

>> I have PM-ed you a comprehensive step-by-step instruction on how to register on the IO TM30 website and subsequently file a TM30 of you staying there.

The process to approve your registration-application takes between 5 minutes and max 5 days.  So with any chance if you do it today you will be able to file your TM30 tomorrow or day afterwards.  Once your TM30 has been filed, you can go to your local IO and they will now provide you your extension of stay (costs 1900 THB).

Success!

Not sure if Phuket immigration will do it that way. They would probably deny the application for registration.

Peter, could he just find a hotel stay one night and double check they will do a tm30 and give him photocopy of tm30 being done. Yes waste of ~600baht but simple.

BTW OP, a short overstay is not a big deal. You won't get negative attitude at airport and won't effect your next reentry into Thailand. The fine is 500baht per day.

Having said that I would avoid overstay.

Last resort gig.

HI UbonJoe, worth a try.  But of course your suggestion is better as he only needs 5 days, and the denied application will still provide him with 7 days (which is more than what he needs).

Yes indeed, that's also a very easy solution.

Check into a hotel for one night, as the hotel is required to file a TM30 of every foreigner staying there.  To be sure that they actually do it (this is Thailand), they should ask for your passport and TM6 departure card.

And you can ask them to provide you with a screenshot print-out of the filed TM30.

Thanks! I will see if that works when i go back tomorrow.

Is there miscommunication somewhere between you and immigration. The picture that you showed is an application for Certificate of Residence and NOT a 1 month extension.

A 1 month tourist extension don't need any rental contract.

Good pick up!

I didn't even read the attachment.

CR has never been required for extension to visa exempt. Is this a wind up?

Phuket immigration calls a TM30 form a certificate of residence (just another oddity for that office).

That is clearly what immigration wants to apply for the extension.

I live in Korat but I’ve never needed my landlord documents before only my wife’s tambien BAAN even though I always bring my land lord information they always refuse it saying they don’t need it. But if you’re not married to a Thai that might not help. Sorry.
