My G/F has twice been issued ( 2005 and 2006) with a 6 month UK visit visa. She would now like to apply for a 2 year visa as we want to travel there more frequently, and possibly at short notice due to elderly relatives , grandchildren etc.

Given that we have been together 3 years, and on both previous 3 week UK visits, she has entered and left UK on the dates stated in the application for the previous visas:

1. What are the chances of a two year visa being granted this time round ?

2. Is an interview likely in these circumstances ?

3. If a 2 year visa is declined, would a 6 month visa be issued instead ( based on the same application), and would the difference in fee be refunded ?

We are not really sure what duration of visa to apply for to achieve a reasonable chance of a successful outcome, although the 2 year one visa be preferable.

Any guidance welcome . . . thanks

No idea what goes on in the minds of the ECO's but if I were in your situation I would apply for it. Give the reasons you have given here. Wouldn't think an interview will be necessary after 3 visits all adhering to the time limits requested.

You cant expect a refund of fee if you are downgraded but there are 1 year visas also so you could be downgraded to that or you could apply for that in the first place.

Why not call or email the embassy and seek out thier views of the likely hood of granting a 2 year visa in your circumstances.

With the provisio that your circumstances have not changed dramatically, except for the better, I'd certainly go for it. The fee is now Β£200.00 and, as Mahout Angrit says, won't be refunded should the application be downgraded. However, the chances of that, I believe, would be slim. In order to make the 2-year multi financially viable, though, you'd have to be sure of visiting the U.K. 4 times within its validity. I'd say an interview is unlikely, although its always a possibility.

Scouse.

The best advice is to call the Embassy , get put through to an ECO, and ask them what they advise. The nicer ones will usually give you a couple of minutes on the phone and you can glean a lot from that. It doesn't mean you will get the same ECO when you apply but it will give you enough info to make an informed choice. You have little to lose , except the extra fee, as if they don't give you a 2 year you will almost certainly , given your history and circumstances , get a 1 year or 6 month one
