Tourism industry expects more growth this year

BANGKOK (NNT) - The tourism sector, which is the main economic driver and income generator of the country, is now facing challenges from the appreciated Thai currency, viral diseases, and the conflict between the U.S. and Iran. Despite all these setbacks, the tourism industry is expecting visitors numbers this year will reach 40 million, generating some 2.05 trillion baht in revenue thanks to the government’s tourism promotion measures.

Transport Ministry to propose BMTA overhaul plan to Cabinet

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport has begun a public forum to gather input on the coming upgrade of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), which includes the renting of some 2,000 buses plus maintenance by private companies and changes to the network of bus routes. The plans will be proposed to the Cabinet this month.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's rice exports in 2020 are forecast to drop to their lowest in seven year, the country's rice exporters group said on Thursday, as the strong baht reduces the competitiveness against other shippers.
