The Thai tourist police have announced the arrest of a man who they say has stolen hundreds of thousands of baht from Japanese tourists in Bangkok.

He is 29 year old Pakistani national Sadam Ahmed Khan.

His modus operandi was to pretend that he was a pilot working for Singapore Airlines or an Indian restaurant owner. He could speak fluent Japanese and would approach Japanese tourists at Suvarnabhumi airport or major department stores in the capital.

In a latest incident back in November at Central World he approached a Japanese tourist to say that he was having problems with his ATM card. After gaining the confidence of the tourist with some glib and believable Japanese he got the victim to press his own ATM and loan him 30,000 baht.

He gave the victim details of his hotel and email and asked for the victim's bank account number so that he could repay the money by wire.

When the victim tried to make contact they realised it was all a con and went to the police.

Evidence gathering revealed the identity of the conman and a warrant was issued by the Pathumwan court.

An informant's tipoff led the Tourist Police Bureau to a rented room in Soi Bang Pla 63, Bang Plee, Samut Prakarn last week where the fraudster was finally arrested and charged with theft.

Tourist police chief Pol Lt-Gen Chettha Komonwanthana said that the suspect has been in and out of Thailand 18 times and successfully pulled off similar cons on many occasions stealing 100,000s of baht.

He always targeted Japanese tourists because he could speak the language and they would be unlikely to make police reports before leaving Thailand.

I would not even lend that kind of money to my current girlfriend, not to mention any scammer should he say he's or she's a pilot or a top model.......ok, well perhaps the female top model after a deeper interview and casting back withing the privacy and tranquility of the hotel....may "lend" her say THB 3'000,- ????

Giving a top model 3,000 isn't really a loan, or a bribe. I think it comes under the heading of

a gift in return for a future

( near future ) favour.

My gosh.  Admitted 18 times, even though they apparently knew he was a con man.

Good guys in...
