Video: Van cuts across ambulance with its siren blaring and lights flashing

Thai media reported that while other motorists saw and heard an ambulance coming one minivan driver at a U-turn apparently did not.

Or he was too selfish to wait, notes Thaivisa.

A video showed the driver pulling out into the path of the Ruam Katanyu foundation ambulance that was on its way from Bang Na to an area near the Suvarnabhumi airport to pick up a sick person.

The driver of the ambulance was able to take evasive action but ended up on the sidewalk after sideswiping a pick-up and flattening a sapling.

The minivan was not one on a scheduled route. The driver just drove off after the incident near the end of King Kaew Soi 37/5 in Bang Plee.

77kaoded reported that a member of the public gave chase and brought the minivan back.

There were no injuries and no report of police action in the matter.

The media asked the public to get out of the way of ambulances.

The article states

"77kaoded reported that a member of the public gave chase and brought the minivan back. "

BUT............"There were no injuries and no report of police action in the matter"

Disgusting !!

"

No report of police action doesn't mean no police action.

Other countries have a working and functioning police force.

Here, the public must take actions to catch the suspect.

Absolutely pathetic...

Other countries have laws stating that you must pull over to allow emergency vehicles to pass.

I believe that Thailand does not have such a law.

' The media asked the public to get out of the way of ambulances. '

Having read the article, nowhere does it say that the police were even contacted about this case.

They (Amb drivers) could do with a little more training though; particularly when driving at break-neck speed into oncoming traffic expecting them to get out of the way with no thought whatsoever to the oncoming driver's reaction time...

(Happens several times per week during the school run & quite often on blind bends etc when least expected ???? )

Back to the clip; Those U turns are absolutely deadly and should be replaced (& yes, that driver's an idiot!)

Nice parking.

On a serious note, these mini van drivers have always driven with this selfish attitude and they will continue to do so......... why? Because they can.

The police here need to be more reactive, we see too many passive police, overlooking law breakers.

Back home if the police had this attitude it would be the same mess.

Typical selfish and gutless Thai driver its in their DNA to run away than take responsibility.

Just saying that it was fortunate that the ambulance was going to pickup a patient and not carrying one when this happened. Bouncing the curb and mounting the pavement like that wouldn't be too good for someone already suffering.

At crucial points like this, even ambulance drivers should go with more precaution, ESPECIALLY HERE IN THAILAND  !!!

And with that you are saying that other countries have police officers placed 100-300 meter away from every accident on every road?

And with that you are saying that Thailand has a working functioning police force???

be more better if karma had decided for the perp to whack a tree further down the road; so that he then needed ambulance quickly!!

No, but that is not the point. Not when there is no police force in the world that have people on the streets so they can catch all.

After watching the video I certainly hope the police take action after the driver left the scene of the accident only to be brought back by a citizen.

He should be hammered hard for this debacle!

Unreal absolutely unreal, the mini van driver was just being a <deleted>, no way on this earth did he not see that ambulance.

Some poor sod could have been killed due to his actions.

I hope that someone got his number, and he is found, not the usual 500 baht, fined 10000 baht and banned from driving.

The linked post has a very clear shot of the back of that van, with registration plate and phone numbers and all...
