Villagers in Ban Khok Pa Paeng village, Prachinburi province captured a crocodile living in the village’s irrigation canal on Tuesday (February 4).

The locals managed to give the beast an electric shock before dragging it out of the water. The animal measures two metres in length and weighs around 40 kilogrammes. Its age is put at seven years – big enough to pose a danger to humans.

The villagers assume the crocodile might have wandered away from its natural habitat as there is no crocodile farm close to the area and the nearest farm has no report of fleeing crocodile.

They have discovered more prints on the ground and believe there are other crocodiles hiding nearby.

A crocodile farm is a natural habitat? - personally I do not think so. I once visited such a farm in Cambodia and it was, in my opinion as a biologist, atrocious. The "crocs" were being bred and then slaughtered to provide the skins for expensive handbags, belts, shoes and other fashion items for mainly Chinese tourists.

So are there wild crocodiles in Thailand? Or did it take an Airasia flight from Australia?
